I went and returned via this route last week. As mentioned earlier, this patch is under construction but nothing to be worried about it. Small potholes here and there.

Also I stayed at Atharva on 31st. Not at all worth the price if you walk into the hotel and book it (3250 for a AC double bed room). However online deals for <2k should be okayish for the hotel. It's a new hotel and fairly clean. But the smell of new paint and weird perfumes used throughout the hotel was discomforting for me and my wife. Also their complimentary breakfast was a joke. However we had dinner at their restaurant (Veg only) and the food was pretty good.

Hope it helps.

Re: Hyderabad - Goa : Route Queries

I suggested Atharva for food only. We didn't stay there, so didn't know the room rates. But 3.2k at that location is certainly not worth. The main drawback with Atharva I found was their limited parking space.
For overnight stay on the way to Goa, I prefer Bijapur. And now there is a pretty decent hotel - Kyriad Vijayapura. It's a brand new hotel, right on the main road, slightly after Gol Gumbaz. It has opened just 3-4 months back with good clean rooms at 4k and good food. Has got a basement parking space for may be about 5-6 cars. Hope this helps folks doing Hyd-Goa with a midway halt at Bijapur.

Re: Hyderabad - Goa : Route Queries

Thanks guys!

My idea for a halt was actually coffee (and food if needed) on a night long drive. And if I am feeling anywhere close to being drowsy, find a safe place to park and take a quick nap.

Bijapur makes eminent sense as it around the half way mark on a Hyderabad - Goa drive. However, I was to stop overnight at Belgaum on the outward leg and Gulbarga on the inward leg. Any suggestions regarding hotels at both places?

Sankem Residency or Hotel Ramdev International @Belgaum are good options.

I stopped for the night at Gulbarga and felt it was not worth it. Gulbarga - Hyderabad (outskirts) took me 2.5 hrs at very moderate speeds usual morning traffic. If you can bear that then it is worth coming back home. If you want to halt at Gulbarga, then Hotel Atharva is located almost on the highway but is worth 2k and not more.

However, my suggestion would be to start late from Goa (after some sightseeing and lunch around 1pm) and halt at Bijapur (by 7-8pm).

2. Hyd - Raichur - Bagalkot - Belgaum - Khanapur - Mollem - Curchorem - Canacona

Hi, I had taken the route 1 in March while going to Goa and back then Koppal-Hubli stretch had some major construction going on and it was a very tough time for me negotiating all the diversions and bad patches. If the construction was not completed before monsoon, the stretch would be in pretty bad shape now.
I would stick to route 2 since it is tried and tested.

Haven't driven to Goa since February 2017. But I do follow this thread quite deligently. And according to recent posts, the quickest route to South Goa is via Zaheerabad-Gulbarga-Belgaum. What is the advantage of taking the route via Raichur?

I think he mentioned that he had to pick up his cousin from Raichur.

The other route you have mentioned is the best in shape, but adds a lot of extra kilometres.

Sorry for the omission, but I guess I missed the connection between the two posts.

As regards the two alternatives, viz. via Raichur and via Zaheerabad, on paper at least, the former is a longer drive though the distance is slightly less.

That's ok.

In my experience the Raichur Bagalkot belgaum road takes the least time.
Zaheerabad route is really good in terms of road conditions overall.

Nothing like an actual user's perspective when planning a route. Will consider using this route next time, if I can save time. Do you recollect the time taken from Hyderabad to Belgaum, which is a pit-stop for me?

I had started early morning 3 am and reached Belgaum around 4 pm with 3 breaks (about 2 hours in all).
The stretch between Devarkadra and Raichur was practically an ocean of gravels during my last trip and should strictly be done in daylight.
