Returned from Ahemdabad to Mumbai on 23rd June.
- Its the usual from Ahemdabad, enter NE1 and continue to NE4.
- Exit NE4 at Bharuch exit. The NE4 beyond this point is under construction and unfortunately, there are no barricades placed or any board to tell you to exit there. You may mistakenly just follow the existing signages that tell you to continue straight to Mumbai, only to return back.
- Luckily we were following Google Maps and exited at Bharuch. That's where Google took us to an internal road within Bharuch, Bharuch railway station is on this route. The internal route continues to Ankleshwar. You join NH48 at Ankleshwar.
- From Ankleshwar to Mumbai its the normal NH48.

Be Careful:
- RCC work is ongoing in Maharashtra side. It may not look it, upfront but, the road is raised 4-5 inches above the normal tar road and the transition from tar road to RCC road is abrupt, its like going over a short and steep ramp. It can give your car airtime if you are not within controlled speeds.
- As mentioned in the post above, there are several places where just the two lanes are concrete, the third lane is still tar. The third lane (which is still tar) is a good 5-6 inches below the RCC lane. Be very careful here, as Iron rebars are jutting out of the concrete side of the road and not all are pointing towards the ground, some are pointing upwards

Due to the sheer number of heavy vehicles plying on the road, the drive was way too hectic. I didn't quite enjoy this one.

Re: Mumbai - Ahmedabad : Route Queries

Just one word to those planning to travel on the highway within MH: AVOID.

We had a leisurely trip last week from Borivli to Daman and back.

The onward drive took us about 6 hours (excluding break time), with 4.5 hours just to clear the MH border (about 90 km from my residence) - even though we started our journey at 7 AM. The entire highway within MH is a mess, from uneven concrete surface patches on the main carriageway to pot-holed service roads and haphazard parking alongside the service roads/fuel pumps.

The return leg was comparatively better, taking us 5 hours (excluding lunch and bio-breaks). We left Daman at 11:30 AM and were home by 6 PM, including a lunch break at Bhagat Tarachand and a bio-break at Sanaya Dhaba near Fountain Junction.

From what we've seen, the concretization work will take about a year more from now. Expect no respite from the current situation at least until next monsoon. Until then, plan your travel using alternate modes (rail/air) and AVOID NH48 at all costs

Planing to do Surat to Pune on a Saturday.
What time should I start preferably to beat the traffic?
Which route should I take? Via Bombay OR via Nashik?

Re: Mumbai - Ahmedabad : Route Queries

I was very fortunate to have reached MH border from Kandivali in 2 hrs flat. The total drive time to Ahmedabad was 9 hrs including driving thru Vadodra to meet a bhpian friend. Left home at 7am and was at talsari by 9am. This was mid-week, Wednesday!
