Hyderabad to Bapatla, Chirala & Suryalanka?

Hi All,

I have booked a resort in Chirala for a couple of days during the upcoming Christmas holidays.
As I see from Google maps, there are 3 route options -

1> via Sagar road and SH2
2> via SH45 (Miryalaguda) and rest is same as option <1>
3> via Vijaywada.

I am more inclined towards option <3> as the roads should be better though the distance is much more (70-80 km). I don't know the condition of the other routes. I am fine with taking the other routes as long as the road condition is fine..Are any of these routes more scenic? What would be the approx time taken for these routes?

Please advise which one I should take.

Also, if I take the option <3>, are there any tips on how to pass through Vijaywada without losing much time?
What about any good eating options on the way apart from & in Suryapet?

If you want to cross Vijayawada without any hastle, suggest you go straight onto the Prakasham Barrage instead of taking left. The straight road will go through a town called Mangalagiri (part of the new Capital of A.P now) and will join the NH towards Guntur. This will help you to avoid traffic in Vijayawada and it's outskirts.

There are many dhabas between Vijayawada and Guntur, you can try one of them. But for hotels, I have no clue.

I suggest you not to take the Sagar road as there will be oncoming traffic and is a bit tiring to drive.

Last time I've been to Chirala was via Miryalguda and the road was good and this is 6 months before.

If you are planning the trip with family, Chirala resorts are not the place you should be looking at.

Can you please elaborate on the above statement? Any issues with Chirala resorts?

Im saying this because the last time i've visited with family they were not comfortable with the resort

Most of the crowd were there to drink and party and they were all over the place

I don't remember the resort name but it was the one along the beach and was the best in chirala

^^
I checked with my friend and colleague who have been to Chirala a year back and they had no problems with the resort there. They stayed in Sea breeze resorts.

Also, what time I should budget for the drive assuming half an hour break for breakfast and a couple of 10 mins break?

Based on the experience when my friends went there around the 2009 time frame, I think most cottages were occupied by bachelors getting a good drink by the beach side. They too belonged to the same category and hence were happy about it that they didn't have to worry about neighboring cottages complaining. I'm not sure about the current situation but this is something that should be expected for anyone going near any beach around the Christmas-New year time frame.

EDIT: I think it was not the Sea Breeze or any private resorts. They stayed in APTDC cottages in the beach if my memory serves me right.

Can you show me a map of the route you are proposing for crossing Vijaywada? Have you traveled on this route recently?

I am unable to post the route map as I am using my office system.

As soon as you cross the entrance of the Durga temple, you can enquire anyone for the route towards Prakasham Barrage (You can actually view the bridge as you go towards Vijayawada from Hyderabad side). It is very near to the entrance of the Durga temple. You will need to get on to the bridge and cross the Krishna river.

We are going with 3 families. So, I guess it should be fine.
I didn't get reservation in Sea breeze resorts. So, I booked the Palm Beach resort. It is supposed to have a private beach. Obviously, if the crowd is bad, they can spoil the atmosphere.

I have heard similar reports about Suryalanka Beach...not about the Ramapuram Beach at Chirala.

I dont mind bachelors having their share of fun..we all had those days.
We are also gonna drink there
But, yes, they should not be behaving badly or passing remarks with family members. Is it too much to expect?

Thanks, I think I should be able to figure that out.
I will take this route.

If possible, post a map later. Google maps shows multiple ways you can connect back to NH5 from this road. I just want to make sure I dont waste time going through wrong roads.even a screenshot of the route would be fine.

Is the below route correct?

I drive to Nellore quite often and I go via Vijayawada when my family is with me so that they can comfortably recharge at "7" near Suryapet. I always take the Prakasham barrage route to Mangalagiri. The drive is scenic though it is mostly a two lane road till we hit NH5.

When you cross the Durga temple, keep an eye on the right side of the road. You should spot the dam/barrage easily. Just take a right onto the barrage and keep going straight till you hit NH5. This is the best route to get onto NH5 from NH9. You save on the travel time as well as the distance.

Hi Venu,
Many thanks! I think i stay in the same apartment complex where you stay. Sent you a PM.

So, is it better to stick to the NH9-NH5 route?
Or, should I give the route through Malgonda-Miryalguda worth trying?

If I start at 6 AM from Hyderabad and take the ORR, when I can expect to reach Chirala through either route?

Apologies. I think my friends went to Suryalanka, not Chirala. Got confused.
