When are you traveling? I'm planning to leave Saturday early morning. Not yet decided which route to take!!

I am planning to start on friday evening. Last time I took Periyapatna-Siddapura route in the night and it was OK except for few KMs. But for day driving Kushalnagar route is better option.

I drove to kannur a week back and the roads were OK. Stretch between Hunsur and Gonikoppa had some bad sections... but very much driveable. Unless you are driving a low GC vehicle, i think all you need to do is watch out and slow down a bit at the bad spots.
The bypass from Srirangapatna is all fixed and good now.

Did BLR-KNR on 28-OCT - Took Periyapatna-Siddapura route

Returned on 6th Nov - took usual Gonikoppa route - Condition is bad between Gonikoppa (after Coorg border) and Hunsur but manageable if it is not raining.

Just came back from a trip to Madikeri. Virajpet-Koottupuzha was decent - had some bad patches, but was decent overall.

Koottupuzha to Thalassery was HELL. There is just no road after Iritty towards Mattannur. Koothuparambu-Thalassery was okay - nothing great.

The potholes around Iritty were huge - I mean, my entire car (Punto) would go into it, and come back! To add to my woes were those ruthless private buses.

Any one has latest update on the Hunsur - Gonukkoppal road..? Any attempt by the authorities to fill up the potholes..?

Hunsur - Gonikoppal: Road is in same condition except some minor maint work

Gonikoppal-Virajpet : Maint work is under progress and it is OK

Kootupuzha-Iritty : Repair work is under progress and is good except for few KM which is expected to complete in coming weeks.

Iritty-Mattanur: Big relief!! Repair work is under progress and is good except for few KM which is expected to complete in coming weeks.

Tonight travelling to Mahe from South Bangalore by Innova. Bit confused of routes. Considering the present conditions please suggest the safe route for night journey.

Return from Kannur by Monday and it will be of day journey.

Well, you do not have many options for night journy.
Bangalore-Sringapattana, eliwala, Hunsur. gonikkopal, Virajpet, Iritty, Thalassery Mahe is the shortest root.Roads are reasonably good and other roads are not much better. I have safely negotiated this route in my City-hence in Innova, you will not be troubled unless it rains heavily.

I am also planning to drive to Payyanur tomorrow. Planning to start by morning 4am. Any one interested to join? Only me and my friend is in the car, and mostly I may be alone while coming back ( Saturday 24th).

You can take the normal route..as far as I know all alternate routes are equally bad.., so better go with the known devil..!!!

The srirangapatna - Elwala stretch is patched up and so as in Coorg district. Only problem area is the few kms after Hunsur till you reach the forest checkpost towards Gonikkoppal. But this is still driveable, and ur SX4 can handle this very easily.

Planning to drive down to payyannur tomorrow morning (Sudden decision-so no time to prepare). Heard that the stretch after hunsur is in a bad condition.
Is it the same now ?
Hope its drivable. Will be travelling in a Fiesta . Hope it will not get swallowed up in giant potholes. :D
Any updates on the route will be appreciated.
