Well the roads from Kutta to Gonikoppa via Kanoor has been done up. Atleast the Kanoor to Gonikoppa section is up and really good.

The irrty road is closed for a while and all will know when it opens!! They are treating this road with least priority

Road Update

Its a good news !!

Kutta~Kattikulam

The road between Kutta Police station and Tolpatty Forest Check Post (3.5 Kms) is being repaired . and the Stretch between Tolpatty Forest Checkpost and Kattikulam RTO Checkpost is Rubberised.
Bangalore - Kannur : Route Queries-img_2502.jpg

Bangalore - Kannur : Route Queries-img_2501.jpg

So the Route : Bangalore~Hunsur~Nagarhole~Kutta~Tolpatti~Kattikul am~Mananthavady~Kottiyur~Irritty~Mattanur~Kannur.
is the best route to kannur which is open from 6am to 6pm (Nagarahole).

The only bad stretch in the whole route is the potholes in-between Srirangapattana and KRS Jn.

Sriragapattana~Yelwala

The road between Srirangapattana Railway cross and KRS Jn. is getting bad because of the rains. People driving through this stretch in the night be little cautious.

HD Kote~Baveli

The 7 Km deviation inside the forest is getting bad because of the heavy rains in the past two weeks.

Is this leg really bad? Can a Sedan do this safely?

It is Ok for a sedan at a very slow speed.

But be more careful when its raining because you will get truck traffic in this road.

Suggest you to take the Nagarahole road instead.

Thanks a ton Nithin for the route update.

I traveled using the following route and found it pretty decent and my little hatch could manage it with ease.

Route: Bangalore-Srirangapattana-Yelvala-Hunsur-Nagarhole-Kutta-Kattikkulam-Mananthavady-Iritty-Irikkur-Mayyil-Parassinikkadav.

It took 7 hrs including the breakfast stop at Cafe Coorg (Hunsur). Most part of the route is decent, if not great. Total distance from Whitefield to NH17 (Kannur University) is 388 kms.

There is NO significance progress in this stretch, but drivable at a speed of 30-50 kmph. I did not see anyone working on this section of the road. The condition of the road is still the same, as shown in your photograph.

Meanwhile, Sunday's Malayalamanorama reported that:
- the Makkutta road will be open on 1st June. There was also a picture of one of the hairpin bends with newly laid concrete.
- the stretch from Koottupuzha till Makkutta is not so good, but drivable.

Hi Siju,

Many thanks for the update. Mean while, Mathrubhumi was kepp reporting that the road will be open on 23rd May'10 by quoting the Karnataka Speaker, who is the MLA from Virajpet.

Anyway, lets have the route cleared before Monsoon. The Contractor has to provide 5 year warranty for the road...!!!

Thanks
Rajesh
