Had been on a bike (bullet) ride to North and coastal karnataka. Haveri-Sirsi stretch has rough stretches for the first 30kms (till the turn off to Hangal) and from there onwards its very smooth (40+kms).

I will be driving from Pune to Panjim via Dharwad - Dandeli - Panjim or Belgaum - Dandeli - Panjim. Can someone tell me how is the road condition.

Thanks,
Kiran

Is Dandeli a stop point? If not you can also do Dharwad-Alnavar-Ramnagar-Mollem-Ponda-Panaji. The Ponda ghat is road is very good.
If Dandeli is a stop point, then you can exit 4-lane at Dharwad and reach Dandeli via Haliyal. No need to go till Belgaum and come back.

Thanks ampere :).

Yes Dandeli is a stop point. As I will be coming from Pune/Mumbai I have an option of exiting at Belgaum or Dharwad. Dharwad can be a stopover and then proceed to Goa via Dandeli.

Sorry I thought you were going from Bangalore. (Hence the comment about not to go till Belgaum).
The ideal route would be :

Belgaum-Khanapur-Ramnagar-Dandeli.

But I think the faster access would be Belgaum-Dahrwad-Haliyal-Dandeli

How's the road condition? Dharwad - Haliyal - Dandeli - Ganeshgudi - Ramnagar - Ponda - Panjim.

Thanks

Ramnagar-Ponda-Panjim is very good. Dharwad-Haliyal-Dandeli is a rought patch. And you NH4 bypass going around Hubli Dharwad twin cities does not have an exit to this road.
I think still this way would be faster than the one via Khanapur. It would be good to get a condition update on Belgaum-Khanapur-Ramnagar
You should get more details on how to latch on to Haliyal road on the following thread:

I thought Ramnagar-Ponda-Madgaon is good. And he wants to go to Dandeli, while coming Pune first.

So from Dandeli I suggested : Dandeli-Ganeshgudi-Ramnagar-Ponda-Madgaon.

And for Dandeli, I had suggested the route via Dharward. (Belgaum-Dharwad-Haliyal-Dandeli)
So looks like while going back, he should take NH4A. He may be better off taking the Amboli route to Pune via Sankeshwar.

I will be travelling on 16th/17th of March. Hence will decide by then.

Hi!,
I am back from my visit to Goa. At the last moment our visit to Dandeli got cancelled, hence our trip became much easier. As per ranjitp1's advise used the Chorla route. Except for a very small patch this road is excellent.

Thanks
Kiran

If Dandeli not on your agenda, then yes, Chorla is the best option.
(Not counting Ajra/Amboli as another option).

Hi,

Which route is advisable for Gokarna-Dandeli-Panjim-Pune? We are planning to have one night stay at all these places. From the previous posts it seems the ideal route should be
Gokarna-Yellapur-Dandeli
Dandeli-Ganehgudi-Ponda-Panjim
Panjim-Mapusa-Sawantwadi-Amboli-Nipani-Pune

Thing is, we are making a road trip between Bangalore to Baroda and we are planning to cover as many places as possible on this entire stretch. So our entire itinerary is Bangalore-Manipal-Gokarna-Dandeli-Panjim-Pune-Surat-Bardoa. We would not mind taking detour from this route also if we can cover some good places.:)

Thanks..

- Which is the car you would be driving? Can it take bad roads?
- If yes Gokarna-Dandeli you can try Gokarna-Ankola-Karwar-Kadra-Anshi-Joida-Dandeli
- This route goes through Anshi ghats with very thick forest cover. But roads are quite bad.
- If you dont want to take that option you can do : Dandeli-Yellapur-Bhagavathi-Haliyal-Dandeli.
- Now you also mention you starting from Gokarna you want to cover more places before you enter Goa. So in that case I would say, after you visit Gokarna, you can also take a day off in Yellapur at this place.
- You can visit places around Yellapur and then proceed to Dandeli.
- Dandeli to Panjim via a scenic route is : Dandeli-Ganeshgudi-Ramnagar-Ponda
