Trip to Yellapur, Banana County Resort

Okay, this is my second thread about and I think I am now posting in correct place.
In January, specifically 26th to 28th, planning trip to Banana county resort in Yellapur, Karnataka with wife and another couple from Mumbai. No kids.
The resort is giving taxi services but is expensive. Also they arrange for pickup from Hubli. But I saw that there are few trains to Hubli from Mumbai and slow too, few tickets. Rather, Karwar is a faster option. Mangalore express reaches at 8am and lots of tickets also. Only it is 100kms away from the resort whereas Hubli is 65kms.
Anybody has any idea about good taxi rental from Karwar to cover complete trip Karwar-Yellapur-Karwar (4Days)?
What are the sights to be seen near Yellapur, seems Jog falls is only 100kms away. Will it be worth going there in Jan?
Appreciate any advice.

@Jesrani, if you dont mind, check out the bus-services by Seabird Volvo. These go via Yellapur, and at the most you may need to book upto Karwar. You can alight at Yellapur, and ask the resort guys to pick you up from there. Seabird's Volvo's may not be top notch, but you'll get there in a fair way

The other way is instead of Karwar you may avail taxi services (offered by the resort) to Ankola.
Ankola-Yellapur would be about 60-65 km. So the pricing should be reasonable,

Only thing is you need to confirm that the train timings to Ankola are not at ungodly hours.
If you know about time of arrival/departure at Karwar add another half an hour.

Thanks for the advices.actually I wanted to take taxi privately as resort rates are higher. I want taxi for all days we stay there.
Any other suggestions?
Checked out the seabird website and they don't have services from Mumbai.

Its then better to get down at Karwar as you may more options there on cab service.
But also note, the railway stations on the Konkan railway are somewhat away from the city.
And most cab services would be offered by tours and travels. (I do know there were some in Karwar but cannot recollect there names.)

Few I know are:
  • Magodu falls
  • Jenukallu Betta
  • Satoddi Falls
  • Sintheri Rocks

If you visit Sirsi, you can cover
  • Yana
  • Unchalli Falls
  • Shivaganga Falls

Re: Trip to Yellapur, Banana County Resort

Okay everyone. Few more developments.
I think Karwar seems best option, train (Mangalore Express) reaches about 9.40am.
I found a travel agent "Vaishnavi Tours and travels" in Karwar from net and called up. The gentleman talked properly and said he can provide taxi. Non-A/c Tavera will cost Rs.8/km, Min 300 kms per day and Rs.300 for overnight. Are these rates okay? He also suggested to stay in Karwar itself rather than go to Yellapur as all sights can be covered from there. He said there is some private island resort and it is good. Anyone have information about this. How is it?

Magod Falls can be given a miss, the falls has to be viewed from quite far and no approach to the falls itself. Rode there 8 months ago.

Sathodi Falls is 26 Kms from yellapur towards Hubli, need to travel 25 Km inside from the Karwar road, roads were pretty bad last time I went there. Good place to visit , but be warned you need to jump boulder to boulder to reach it.

Sintheri Rocks Nice serene place, was told the roads have been made and the walk to the falls paved. Tourists are not allowed to get in the water as the spot has quite high fatality rate.

Dandeli can also be an option as it's about 100 Kms from Karwar.

@Jesrani

My Dad and his colleagues had visited the place, I'll get an update on him about the place and post it.

Taxi rates, I need to check with local taxi services on the rate.

Mumbai -Mangalore buses pass through Yellapur on the NH63.You can probably ask the resort to pick you up from the bus drop off point .This should be the most convinient way and the fastest as well .

Thanks, look forward to your advice. Now thinking of staying in Karwar itself, the place Great Outdoors looks good.

If you are staying in Karwar, you may also want to take a look at Jungle Lodges-Devbagh.

Places like Gokarna, Murudeshwar, Yellapur, Yana and South Goa are in a radius of about 70-100 km from Karwar. And can be done pretty comfortably if you have a vehicle of your own.
The rates are pretty reasonable. Note that the per-day driver rate may be added to the above mentioned rates (Maybe around 150-200 INR per day).

I will check out the place you suggested.
So you would also recommend staying in Karwar instead of Yellapur?

It would depend on what you are looking to do.

Places around Yellapur and Sirsi have a higher number of waterfalls and are slightly more secluded. Note that in January, the waterfalls may not be in their full glory.

Karwar sits on the coast and if I was looking at visiting beaches (In Gokarna, Murudeshwar, South goa), I would set-up base in Karwar.

So I think it would basically boil down to jungle retreat vs beach resort. But I was told we can cover the waterfalls from Karwar itself.

Yes, you can cover the waterfalls (Yellapur area) from Karwar. The distance between Karwar and Yellapur is around 65 km and the roads are pretty decent. (NH-17 and NH-63).

You can opt to stay in Karwar and plan a one-day visit to Yellapur ( Sathodi,Magod falls). Maybe even Jog falls if you there is enough water in Jog around that time, though the distance to Jog would be higher since it is in a different direction.
