Re: The mega "Road Updates" thread

Will be doing Delhi Nashik shortly on my Royal Enfield Meteor 350. Is Del-Agra-Gwalior-Indore route better or the regular Del-Jaipur Ajmer-Ratlam route

Hi

I plan to travel from Mumbai to Agra in mid Dec with kids and parents. I've done Mumbai to Agra twice but always via Udaipur > Jaipur > Agra route.

Like you we also start very early and end before its dark.
This December I am thinking of taking the MP route and my route will be the same as your regular route after Nasik.

Can you advise on the current situation of this route. Any other suggestions.

Thanks

All the best for your travel plan benzinblut!

I haven't travelled on this route since the rainy season started, so not exactly sure of how the roads are currently between Nasik and Nardana/Sendhwa. This route is anyway laden with a lot of speed breakers and a few broken surfaces of road. Also be very careful of the speed limits, as there are speed cameras in and around Dhule-Nardana section.
You will get better places to eat once you hit Indore. Nasik to Nardana, I did not find clean places to stop with family. If I am not wrong, there is Hotel Manas near Dhule. That was a decent place though. Breakfast options are limited there. The usual suspects - Pohe, idli and the likes.

I believe the Mumbai-Vadodara section's road is being relaid and I am very hopeful that by December this stretch will be in good shape.

If I were to start from Mumbai, I would rather pick the Mumbai-Surat-Vadodara-Halol-Godhra-Udaipur-Jaipur-Agra route.

If all goes well, I might be traveling to Agra myself towards end of October. If I happen to do that, will surely update the road conditions.

Thanks.
The only reason I was considering this route because it is more than 200km and 3 hours shorter as per google maps.

Mumbai to Nasik and Pune to Nasik is the same. So its the same distance for both of us.

My main concern on this MH-MP route is safety and road condition related to my regular route.

Have a nice trip in October and Please update here after your trip.

I personally haven't come across any safety issues on the MH-MP sector. Long back when this route was single lane, there were concerns with safety, but not anymore. Have been on this route for more than a dozen times already.

One bit which I just recollected is the Shivpuri bypass. Untill last year it was under construction. I am not sure of the latest status. That stretch of around 4 to 5 kms was completely broken and best covered with day light still available.

Thank you for your wishes! My plan is still tentative though! It has more chances of getting cancelled than materialising!

Between Nashik and Indore:
Nashik-Dhule: Good surface, bit of traffic
Dhule-Sendhwa (MH-MP border): bad, plenty of potholes, but manageable.
Sendhwa-Indore: After Sendhwa ghats it is superb, but some portions of the ghats at Sendhwa and Manpur (near Indore) are bad.

Dhule has some good restaurants. The Orchid is recommended in TBHP forum. We had lunch at "Radhe Radhe" just after the Dhule Toll Plaza (before the city), it was decent with A/C hall and clean washrooms.

Safety wise nothing to complain, though I wouldn't recommend driving at night. Better to halt for the night at Indore which is the midpoint between Mumbai and Delhi.

Shivpuri bypass is complete, but the last stretch near the ghats had just newly laid surface without lane markings, and one side only. But shouldn't be an issue because the surface is good and the carriageway is wide.

I am planing my trip in December. Do you think the roads would be better by that time? Because it will be much after monsoon.

This year January, I traveled from Jaipur to Pune and the fog was really dense. So much so that, I had to drive on the left most lane at speeds no more than 20kmph till around Neemuch. I know it's down right dangerous to have done that; however,it was a personal emergency and I had to reach Pune.

Regarding Pune-Indore-Gwalior-Agra stretch fog could pose a problem. Though, personally I haven't encountered it, but have heard from friends and family.
Fog usually stays till around 9ish in the morning and starts to build up around mid night / very early morning.

Hi everyone,

I would be driving from Ahmedabad to Pune. Would prefer to go via Nashik, to avoid the traffic at Vasai bridge and Thane. Which of the alternatives would you recommend for the Surat - Nashik section:

Option 1 (recommended by Google maps): Chikhli - Dharampur - Mankadban - Chavshala - Peint - Nashik.

Option 2: Killa Pardi - Nana Pondha - Kaprada - Peint - Nashik. I always take this route and I took the same while driving to Ahmedabad from Pune. But the road from Nana Pondha to Kaprada is in horrible state. At two places, the trucks had broken down because of the road condition and this further created traffic jams. This is the reason I am looking for a better alternative.

Option 3: Kharel - Saputara - Nashik

Option 4: Charoti - Jawhar - Trimbak - Nashik. This was adviced by acquillew in this thread, few posts back.

Which of the above routes offers good roads without traffic snarls?

Hi Rahul,

When I drove from Nashik to Ahmedabad early this year, the roads via Charoti were in supreme condition. I cannot say for sure if thats still the case after the monsoons.

This is the route I took. in June. Barring truck traffic and narrow 15 km section leading into NH8. Both of which were manageable. Took us 2:15 hrs from Nashik to Valsad Sugar n Spice.

Parag had taken Chikhli-Saputara and reported it good sometime back.

I have taken Killa Pardi - Nana Pondha - Kaprada - Peint route 4 days back. Kaprada to Nana Pondha is in horrible state causing traffic snarls and truck breakdowns. That is why I am looking for alternative.

Re: The mega "Road Updates" thread

A big hello to all, I need to travel from Vadodara to Kanpur in the shortest possible time. I usually go via Vadodara -> Jaipur and Next day do Jaipur-> Kanpur. This helps me meet friends and family in Jaipur. However, this route is a little longer both in terms of time and distance.
Any updates on roads routing via Vadodara -> NE4 -> Shivpuri -> Kanpur. Considering the fact that I avoid driving by night, request heads up on probable halt enroute etc.
Thanks in Advance.

With the farmer's stir back, anyone has any 'on ground' updates on the route to follow if we want to reach Chandigarh from Delhi?

I'll be doing this route too in a week's time. Planning to drive Delhi - Meerut - Chandigarh. Know someone who did this last week, took an hour extra but was very comfortable.
