Hi, I am planning to travel from Coorg to Ooty during the 2nd week of July, I was wondering if someone has taken the route mentioned below in google maps?

Madikeri - Kushalnagar - Hunsur - Heggadadevankote - Sargur - Begur - Gundlupet - Masinagudi - Ooty

Total: 235 kms

I just checked the maps and gather that the route via Mysore ORR is hardly 12km more compared to what you mention.
The route you mention is also the primary route which google shows-up.

So infact not much gained by the alternative. There would hardly any traffic on the Mysore from Hunsur ORR entry to Nanjangud exit.
Traffic increases on the Mysore-Nanjangud section.
But given the fact that this section has also been patched up, it should be easy to drive.

All the above points in case, folks have no feedback on the primary route for which you seek details. (I dont know about it as well).

I have taken Madikari->Hunsur and Begur->Gundelpeth->Masinagudi->Ooty. Both are good. The only unknown is Hunsur->Begur which i haven't used ever.

Heggadadevankote - Sargur - Begur: Interior roads, average/poor condition.

I would recommend going via Mysore ORR, as recommended by ampere - excellent roads all the way. If you are interested in some beautiful monsoon vistas, albeit at the cost of not so good roads, take Madikeri - Virajpet - Gonikoppal - Kartikulam - Panamaram - Bathery - Gudalur - Ooty. Note that this does not make sense if you have to go via Masinagudi (not directly to Ooty).

Thanks for the suggestion, i have taken the nanjangud mysore road, wanted to see how would be a drive via country side but yeah since lot of uncertanities on the hunsur begur section, its best to stick to the route via mysore orr.

Hi guys, are there any updates on the above stretch of road? I will be in HD Kote next week and I plan to visit Gopalswamy Betta, before heading back to Mysore.

Google maps shows HD Kote-Handpost-Sargur-Begur-Gundlupet-Bandipur route.

How is the road condition between HD Kote Handpost-Sargur-Begur? Or is there any other shorter route to avoid Begur and reach Gundlupet or Bandipur directly?

Nope. There is no other way to reach Gundlupet/Bandipura from HD Kote - you have to go via Handpost - Sargur - Begur. Not sure about the road conditions though.

Hello all,

Request your advice on the road conditions between Coorg to Ooty via Gonikoppa - Kutta - Gudalur - Ooty route. I’ll be travelling with my family and the priority being a scenic route although not at the expense of very bad roads.
Patches here and there are totally fine.
