I think the video clarifies it all, it is a smart hybrid aka mild hybrid. The car is a manual that is another give away that it is a mild hybrid. The battery of the mild hybrid is stored under the driver seat where strong hybrid has it in the boot. Looking at the images in the video. The passenger side of the car has burnt plus the rear but the front and driver side looks brand new. So the battery doesn't seem to be the reason for this fire.

TATA Punch fire incident, it seems no one knows the cause!

Quote:
In a distressing incident that unfolded on the 20th of May 2023, a Tata Punch with registration number UP14EY9077 caught fire near Bulandshahr. The vehicle, purchased from Tata Sab Motors Ghaziabad on the 15th of January 2022, had been diligently serviced at authorised Tata Motors service centres and had accumulated a mileage of 23,000 kilometres.
However, the cause of the fire remains unknown, and the car owner’s attempts to seek clarification and resolution have been met with silence. This unfortunate event has raised concerns regarding the warranty coverage, and the responsiveness of Tata Motors’ customer service.
Car owner:

am the owner of the Car and purchased it on 15th Jan 2022 from Tata Sab Motors Ghaziabad. It has been driven 23000 Kms and never serviced out of Tata Motors. 3 services done till now. No aftermarket fitments either. My Tata Punch (UP14EY9077) caught fire on 20th May 2023 afternoon near Bulandshahr while my Father Mr Upendra Kumar was driving it.

Damn, only five days old? How discouraging and annoying this must be for the customer!
Following such situations, companies ought to write down their findings. People should know what exactly happened, even if the cause is mod work/accessories.

Mechanical problems can be fixed; but, this directly affects people's safety.

Re: Accidents : Vehicles catching Fire in India

While I understand Manufacturers deflecting third party modifications, it just cannot be acceptable that they don't create a proper pipeline for accessories and spares. While I understand Mahindra throwing a "must be done professionally" - they do not state what their own internal guidelines are to measure "professionally".

iPhone was always a locked environment - but even Apple has been forced to open up DIY in the EU and USA.

It cannot be that manufacturers are allowed to deflect without stating exactly what failed- even if such service was done by an external, third party.

I also dont like that certain basic accessories are not available - e.g. if you disallow dashcam you MUST make it available for professional installation. Or allow customers to procure a dashcam and get it "professionally" installed in the service center.

Interesting article this one here.

https://insideevs.com/news/561549/st...est-fire-risk/

It says hybrids run the highest risk of fire, then ICE and last comes EVs. I think it's a U.S. study.

Re: Accidents : Vehicles catching Fire in India

Another case of Nexon EV on fire. As per the video, this fire started after the car crashed into the tree and the passengers were able to walk out safely.

This doesn't look like a fire originated or involving the battery pack else the consequences could have been much worse. Wondering what could have caused the car to catch fire.

Video below.

As per the discussion with the owner by EV group admin, there was an two wheeler involved in the accident as well. Due to which there was a police case and Tata will get their hands on the vehicle once the police do their report. After TATA gets the vehicle, they will come out with a report.

Two more fire incidents of Kia Seltos, both very recent.

One Seltos caught fire happened just after getting the car from Kia service centre after a service.

Second one as mentioned in the Tweet.

Re: Accidents : Vehicles catching Fire in India

A man got killed when his car burst into flames while trying to park the car. Wonder what happened here as apparently the fire didn't start from the engine bay. Scary stuff.

Quote:
“We inspected the engine of the car and could find no fault. The fuse and so forth were intact, except the probability of a short circuit in the engine. In fact, the huge fire started from the back end. The rear portion of the vehicle was completely gutted,’ said Prasanna Kumar N, assistant motor vehicle inspector."

PS: Can anyone identify the car from the pics?

This is a case for Cops. Looks like arson/preplanned. No way the engine bay could have zero damage and the car burn down to metal. Looks very suspicious and as if someone has tried to hide a sinister motive or a deed.
