Well that is surely going to hard-line their insistence on no changes/upgrades.

Hopefully TATA also realizes the core issue - people going to third party(so called unauthorized workshop) instead of the ASS. Be it their stubborn stance against upgrades or below average service standards.
Providing certified upgrades inhouse surely makes better service sense, than washing off their hands by asking customers to keep everything stock.

A look at their product trims are a clear indicator that providing upgrades should not be impossible.
The base version gets halogens, higher up it's LED's.
Maybe discussing with the manager, to get replacement LED lamps of the higher trims, to be installed in place of halogens.

A customer buying a base trim, should be atleast allowed basic upgrades like LED especially if their own product has it on the above trims.

Re: Accidents : Vehicles catching Fire in India

This is not exactly a fire that had been caused by any shortcoming of deficiency by an OE. But it is a fire that engulfed the local ASC showroom of M/s Paragon Traders, Nagpur, who are into the dealership for Royal Enfield since more than five decades. Luckily, the showroom was shut as the fire engulfed it around 9.00 pm. There were no casualties. The owner called his employees upon reaching the showroom that was up in flames. About ten RE bikes were charred and damaged, while 17 were removed to safety. Besides, furniture and other material (most likely spares and RE bike gear etc) were also gutted. The cause of the fire is being investigated, though reports say it was due to an electric short circuit.

According to police, the driver of the Porsche 911 sports car bearing Chandigarh registration number was speeding and lost control of the vehicle.

Both the occupants of the car, who were reportedly in an inebriated state, managed to flee before the vehicle caught fire, they said.

Later in the day, a city-based businessman approached the police, saying his son was driving the car at the time of the accident. He claimed that the crash occurred as his son was trying to save a dog that suddenly came in front of his car.

This is really bad a new car catching fire in dead of the night. Mahindra should do through investigation.

Interesting observation - When an ICE car catches fire, nobody cares or asks a question. This is very evident from the fact that last 24 hours no one has even posted even a single response to this post. Had this been an EV people would have gone crazy by now.

Mahindra has already released an official statement. However, it contradicts the customer’s statement.
Though I don’t think Mahindra would make such a blunder in a public forum, they must be sure about their investigation.

I don't agree with the analysis for the reason as follows - If this was an electrical fire otherwise the car's electronic circuits would have stopped working. If you see the video on twitter, the headlights, rear lights and the emergency blinkers are all working despite the fire. Also, the fire was towards the top of the engine and didn't effect the front tyres or the front bumper even. It was not concentrate to a specific side.

So Mahindra should come up with substantiated evidence for their claim.

Here we go again!. Mess around with the car, create all kinds of issues, car catches fire, vehemently deny any mods, blast the company, blast the CEO and his uncle, company investigates and discovers some stupid mod.

Despite repeated incidents, some people just do not learn. NEVER allow a third party to even touch your electrical system. Going to an accessory shop? Never look beyond floor mats, steering cover, phone holder or any such stuff.

Seems like about to be delivered vehicle, has accessories fitted and also what looks like a number plate.

Could be flammable material left in the boot coupled with summer heat. Also, car is standing over a drain cover with dry leaves.

Now this is more like it, this should have been provided in the statement in the first go rather than mentioning generic after market accessory statement or the first statement could have simply been it is acknowledged and we will share our analysis and then this. This way they would have eased out any speculation

It will important to know if this was a strong hybrid variant or a mild hybrid variant as the strong hybrid variant has a lithium battery in the boot.

EXACTLY!!

None of the accessory shops will take the time and care to do a mod properly. If a question is asked the standard reply is "I have done this for thousands of cars and nothing has happened yet". "Yet" is the key.

I did a horn swap by myself, painstakingly creating a connector that will achieve stock connection to the existing harness and ensured the horn power ratings are well within what the car can handle. The entire activity, from researching the right horn (within power ratings and legal limits), finding the right connectors for stock connection, gathering all materials/prep work and fitting the horn, took 1.5 days of dedicated time. That's a lot of time. But I gave that time only because I knew none of the accessory shop will do a stock connection like I did - they will do the job in 10mins by splicing the wire.

People really have to understand the gravity of some of these before deciding to head to an accessory shop. And if they do, doubly ensure that a stock connection is achieved.

When a non-hybrid/EV vehicle catches fire, 99/100 times, there is something wrong the customer/customer's environment did to it. Hybrids/EVs aren't quite there yet because of batteries getting involved, but I'm sure even those, in due course of time, will have solid reliability at least from a fire safety standpoint.

Seems like maximum damage is the booth area. Possibility is this might be the strong hybrid if the fire was caused due to lithium battery.

Just came across this video. According to the video this happened in Goa. The car had run about 2300 kms.
