Road Safety

Saw a W210 Mercedes E Class completely burnt - tyres, interiors, body - lying somewhere in Andheri. Am sure the incident happened last night or today morning. The car looked as if it was burnt somewhere and was just dumped at this place. Inquired with some people on the incident - but none had a clue on how it happened. Going by bits of paint that was visible - it seemed like a dark blue color.
It's the turn of a Maruthi Omni to catch fire Nagpur. Apparently the culprit this time was a poor quality LPG kit. This is another issue in our country -- obsessed with mileage (with scant regard to safety). We Indians would use any dangerous material or fitment to save a few bucks every month regardless of the vehicles turning into potential death traps!

Just an observation, except for the Nanos, the rest of the cars that have been reported seem to be Diesel cars, is that just a coincidence or is there some connection? If the numbers of cars on fire is the same (more being reported due to ubiquitous media capture and sharing technology) as it was 5 - 10 years ago, its a alarming situation as technical improvements should have made the cars more safe. If safety against fire (a subtle, less advertisement potential angle) being sacrificed in the modern cars. Cars seem to have improved in all quarters from engines to ergonomics. However is fire safety being ignored? Or due to rapid motorization are the post showroom equipments being flooded with cheap (grey market) stuff that is the cause. In each incident of fire, none of them have been given satisfactory explanations. I think we need a thread (or is there one) on what do in case of fire in the car, or even better how to sense it before is happens.
Can some experts throw some light?
A few images of a Verna that caught fire in Ellora Park area, vadodara. Nobody knew where the fire started, but mainly the hood area is damaged, so it started in engine bay. I suspect that the excessive heat is taking its toll on cars where any low quality wire can melt IMO. This was mostly a diesel car. The driver side window was broken, so mostly it had to be broken open for occupants to come out.

Just a few days after the fire - we see this car being completely broken down part by part. Someone was overheard saying that the car was burnt due to enemity with the owner - while some were saying that the car caught fire on its own. Either way, the car should have been taken into police custody, right?
Freak accident today at 12 Am on Vashi Creek bridge. An almost new Ford Fiesta got charred. The 2 inmates, 2 guys in their late 20s got saved by a whisker. According to them, they just heard a blast from the engine compartment and the next moment saw flames leap out of the AC vents. Both fled for their lives, leaving everything in the Car.
Part of a marriage party. Their friends were following them in a Ferarri, probably a Modena and we managed to locate them in the serpentine traffic jam. The Car was salvaged from blasting at the last moment as the Fire trucks were stuck in the Jam.
Managed to get a few clicks and a Video. Stay safe!
Edit: Unable to add the Video! :-/

Why is it that there is always a Ferrari involved in a car-fire? :uncontrol
Jokes apart, that seriously is a freak accident! Imagine flames shooting out of the AC vents! That's scary! Could it be a short-circuit, or rewiring done wrong? A blast from the engine compartment could mean a blown gasket(?)
A Spark (may be Alto) burned down to ashes under Badarpur flyover just in front of Tughlakabad Metro Station DTC Bus Stop. No info about causality. When I reached the spot the fire was almost dossed by Firemen.
Read in TOI today about a car catching fire on NH8 near Iffco Chowk Gurgaon yesterday.
Driver died in accident as the car could not be unlocked.
Car model and reason for fire was not mentioned.
Read this in paper version, could not find any online link.
Saw a completely charred red Swift today in Hiranandani Powai, a little ahead of Haiko Supermarket before D-Mart. From the pics, didn't look like the fire originated in the engine. The whole passenger area is burnt to a crisp, only metal frames were visible.
Hope the owners got out in time.

I was going to pose the same car's pic and noticed you have posted many better pics.
Don't know if this is the right thread to post, but since it happened on a street I thought of posting it here.
While returning from work today at 7:57 pm saw this car burning on the link road to Gurgaon-Faridabad Road. Hope the occupant (s) are safe and uninjured. Funnily the first Fire extinguisher & a cop arrived when the car almost was reduced to ashes.

God, that's a ghastly sight. Looks like an Accent to me.
gd, there exists a thread for cars on fire.
Its an Indigo I guess. Hope the occupants are safe and sound. I saw a swift burning to ashes at the end of DND just before Ashram few years ago. These sightings are terrible especially for petrol heads..
