It appears like the tire was on a mission. It came back to give the KIA another pat!

The car that had the dash cam was initially occupying that lane, only to give way for the poor KIA to get to the 'position', and then moved back to its original lane for the 'perfect' capture. Really bad luck there

It's called double tap. I really hope the people survived.

Yes, according to the highway patrol, the sole occupant who drove the vehicle sustained only minor injuries.

Re: Accidents in India | Pics & Videos

This is one accident which is just like a film stunt. Fortunately the driver is safe. Shows the advantage of wearing seat belt, without which the driver would have been thrown around.

Very scary indeed.

I think it is the result of unauthorised modification, with sub standard components.

Re: Accidents in India | Pics & Videos

This wierd accident is not from India but worth watching. And glad to hear "minor injuries".

This should be used for advertising the usage of seatbelts. The driver managed to walk away with "minor" injuries, thanks to being belted up.

The video would be hilarious if not for the fact that lives were at stake. The errant tyre bumps the car and manages to chase it and gives it one more bump! Scary indeed.

The combination of GC/approach angle of the black car and the size of the spinning wheel ahead created a "ramp" like effect (instead of a "wall") for the black car and the momentum of the black car drove it of the "ramp" making it fly. You can see the perfectly spinning wheel on the road just after the black car lifts off the ground. Freak accident due to improper wheel installation.
It was due to worn out wheel hub & bearing. Sharing the video below

Re: International Road Accidents

As projectiles go, you'd be hard pressed to find something more potent or lethal than a vehicle wheel.

It has rigid core made of steel or alloy, then an inflated rubber outer that gives it flexibility and durability compared to let's say, a brittle ceramic or metal layer that may break on impact.

Combine it with it's momentum - not just linear momentum alone but it's rotational momentum as well, and you have something that's virtually indestructible and packs a TON of kinetic energy if at a high enough speed.

Youtube is full of truck fail videos where the errant wheel comes off and results in a carnage on the road or worse, destroys the unlucky roadside establishment that stands in its way...

Not sure what the moral of this story is, though... er... watch out for wayward truck wheel you see rolling beside you on the road? :-)

My question to experts here

Why does the Smaller car flip?
I expected the tyre would hit the smaller car head-on and damage the bumper/bonnet/windshield etc

But a flip doesn't make sense to me.

Any insights?
I watched the video at slower speeds, the tyre was at an angle to the car's bumper.
That and the rubber squishing at the right amount might have caused it to go under the body and consequentially caused it to flip.
My 2 paise to the discussion.

Re: International Road Accidents

That pickup was extremely lucky. All those trucks speeding on the road and yet the pickup managed to get to the side of the road without a hitch

Sorry to hear about your friend. Failing to notice a stop sign led to the accident as per the article.
Quote:
He failed to yield at a stop sign and drove through the intersection with Highway 26, according to the WSP.

His SUV was T-boned on the driver’s side by the southbound truck…
Ignoring the traffic light, intentionally or by mistake, is at rampant at least in India. This has led many accidents in the cities itself. One can imagine what can happen on the highways where the vehicles are at a very high speed.

One thing that I always follow at highways is to slow down a little while approaching any intersection irrespective of the presence of vehicle or people or animal crossing it. it is a matter of just a few seconds, but can save you from any unwanted surprises.

I'm genuinely sorry for you, for the loss of your friend. That is tragic however it happens.

But... What about the innocent truck driver?

Escaped unhurt, as per the article.

The driver of the other vehicle involved, a semi truck with a trailer, was not injured, according to the WSP.
