Kudos to Mahindra for scoring the highest points in crash safety apart from the 5 star rating in both adult and child occupant protection.

XEV achieves a perfect score. Same as on the lines of other EVs. This highlights structural advantage of a rigid battery back in such tests (and hopefully real world)

On video, its easy to see how it just aces the side Pole impact test

It would be interesting to compare SUVs and hatchbacks with sedans on rear impact. Since passengers sit close to the rear in hatchbacks, wonder if that would make any difference.

Re: BE 6 and XEV 9E scores 5 stars in BNCAP tests

Appreciate the 5 stars for sure .

But is BNCAP only going to test cars, that are pretty much sure to be safe, forever? What about the lower segment cars? After all the results are expected from these manufacturers. What about Hyundai, Maruti, Kia etc etc, with their questionable safety records?

And man, they repeat each and every test in the video a hundred times! Take the frontal offset barrier test, for instance. How many times will they show the same thing from a hundred angles?

They knew exactly how to steal the thunder from Hyundai's "Creta review embargo". While 5 stars for these vehicles is not surprising, the score is something everyone in Mahindra can be proud off.

Exactly! It is as if BNCAP is only announcing result of cars with 5 star safety, while quietly sweeping under the rug result of lesser safe cars .

Generally, the test vehicles are either sponsored by the manufacturers or if the testing agency is well-funded, it buys the car from the market for testing.

I am assuming that BNCAP leans more on the former than the latter.

Re: BE 6 and XEV 9E scores 5 stars in BNCAP tests

Congrats to Mahindra - these guys have definitely made the industry itself a lot safer.

Now, not to be a party pooper but it seems like every car tested by BNCAP so far has earned a 5 star rating except the Basalt which scored 4 stars. Have cars gotten safer, have companies figured out how to game the test or is the BNCAP testing methodology a little too lax?

Re: BE 6 and XEV 9E scores 5 stars in BNCAP tests

If anyone else noticed, during Frontal Offset crash test of both XEV 9e and BE 6, driver side curtain airbags also deployed which will provided additional protection to driver side occupants since they are being thrown towards the driver side while the rear end of car goes towards passenger side.

Compare this with recent crash test video of Skoda Kylaq, No curtain airbags deployed while frontal offset crash. Focus on Kylaq's crash test video at timestamp of 1:14 and we can see driver dummy's head is colliding with B pillar of Car.

Re: BE 6 and XEV 9E scores 5 stars in BNCAP tests

The 16/16 in ODB is something I believe only two other cars in history have managed: the Chevrolet Cruze in 2009 and the Tesla Model 3 in 2019. Now there is such a thing as overfitting to tests, so I won't try to overplay chasing full points (vs a 14.something or 15.something) as some landmark achievement in safety, but it is certainly a milestone from the trivia POV where we like to consider NCAP tests a "game" manufacturers are trying to "win".

The cars you're seeing are not a random sample as the submission of cars is influenced by manufacturers' confidence in their test performance, unlike GNCAP who gets a 10 million Euro grant from the FIA Foundation every year plus more from Bloomberg Dot Org, in addition to manufacturer requests.

Interestingly, in one of the videos above the curtain airbag doesn't deploy.

The 9E at the 1.47 mark.

One can only guess why unless a technician comes along and guides us on this forum.

So happy to see. Now the 5 star safety rating is like a cherry on top of a delicious cake.
These cars are now ticking all the checklist boxes of a car lover.

Re: BE 6 and XEV 9E scores 5 stars in BNCAP tests

Did anyone see or notice the fact that the 79kwh battery is only offered with option three or pack three ? The crash tests result mentioned the rating is applicable for One59 , Two59, Three59 and Three79. This clearly shows they're providing the larger battery only with the top spec BE6. A bad move , I would say, cause there were many who would want the larger battery without the gizmos.
