Video: Chinese EV maker, Chery conducts an in-house 3-car crash test

Chinese EV maker, Chery, recently demonstrated how safe its cars were by conducting a 3-car crash test in front of an audience. As seen in the video, the Chery Exceed Sterra ES electric sedan was placed in the centre of the floor, with two similar-sized sedans crashing into it from opposite directions simultaneously.

As per reports, the crash test is said to be designed to simulate a scenario wherein a car gets hit in both directions while attempting a U-turn. The report also states that the Exceed Sterra held up well during the test, with no chassis twist, all airbags deployed, door handles automatically extended allowing personnel to open the doors from outside and the passenger dummies were decently protected.

However, the crash test was conducted by Chery and not by a federal or independent crash test agency.

I reckon these types of crashes are common in India. A typical scenario involves locals wanting to make quick turns in marked and unmarked sections of highways. This is more deadly compared to frontal crashes, especially in the south, as roads are narrower than in the northern part.
