Now a bunch of automotive PR folks on social media and elsewhere will hopefully go silent on the never ending "tin can" bashing. Its funny because I've said it before, the day Maruti gets 5 star ratings in crash tests, the other brands that only have these NCAP ratings as their star campaigner, but fail in everything else from reliability to aftersales services will find it really hard to sustain their upwards trajectory.

You add this result to the fact that Maruti Suzuki is building BEV (in partnership with Toyota), that would only mean trouble ahead for the brands directly behind the market leader, especially those jugad assemby dependent ones who will put together a Dracula by sourcing multiple parts from other makes but their technicians are neither trained to fix the concoction nor have the tools to do so.

Now let's see the other manufacturers replicate Marutis reliability, fuss free ownership, service networks, parts availability even for long time discontinued products etc. Wish we had something like a JD Power or Kelly Bluebook to rank customer satisfaction across brands.(Before both of those got bought ofcourse). That's a marketing tool Suzuki could use in India and show the public why they're still moving the numbers they are even right now. clap:

Kudos to Maruti!

(As I silently pray in Jimny :p)

Am I day dreaming?
Fist Skoda launched a turbo petrol car for 7.89L and now Maruti is scoring 5 stars, what next? A reliable Tata!

On a serious note, finally the day has arrived, when Maruti Suzuki took all the bashing in a positive direction and has replied to its critics by their end result (I was one of them). The last Maruti we had was an Estilo back in 2019 & we decided that we will never buy their car because of safety issues. Maruti has well, gained back our trust and I would not mind having a safe Maruti in our garage because these cars are so simple and well engineered, that they refuse to die. E.g. our Estilo is in the extended family and it has done 3L kms, the engine has not been touched yet, speaks volumes on the Japanese reliability.

Dear Maruti, take a bow, you have done the unthinkable, never in my dreams I thought that a Dzire would score 5 stars that too with a stable shell.

P.S. Its time that Tata Motors start thinking on their QC issues & reliability factors because the safety game has got one more player.

God bless competition :Cheering:

Yes, this indeed is true. The Global NCAP website has updated the test results in its website:

This could be a game changer for safety in India. Hopefully, all Maruti Suzuki cars would eventually be 5-star rated.

So will this be the end of Tata again?

This might not affect Tata a lot because Tigor is anyways not selling a lot but as more manufacturers start taking safety ratings seriously, it will definitely hurt them big time.

These are interesting times indeed and Maruti has stunned lot of people. Nobody in their dreams would have thought Dzire scoring 5 star rating in GNCAP.

Tata does not have any sedans that competes neck to neck with Maruti. But this should be a wakeup call for Tata to improve their sales and service center experience. Currently both departments lack enthusiasm and especially after sales is still not a great experience.

Maruti should replicate what they did with Dzire to Brezza and try to get 5 star rating for Brezza. Old Brezza scored 4 star and people still remember that. Brezza has potential to become king of sub 4m SUVs with 5 star GNCAP rating. A 5 star GNCAP rated Brezza can sway lot of people away from Hyundia/Kia who want better build quality and from Tata Motors who want reliable and better after sales experience.

So, Maruti 'CAN'produce safer cars, all these years they simply didn't want to. That topic is for another day.

This comes from a company which was not bothered about GNCAP till last year.

Glad to see all car makers trying to produce safer cars.
Safety - tick
Features - tick
Pricing - - - waiting.

This is not only a new era for Maruti Suzuki but for the entire automobile industry in India. Maruti's weakest link was safety and now by addressing this it has put tremendous pressure on competition to deliver quality products. Especially Tata who's major USP is safety would really need to think about engine refinement, after sales, fit and finish or they're going to take a major hit in sales. Same goes with Honda with the new facelift Amaze.

Thats really good and surprising as well. Hope Maruti can improve Ertiga to 5-star safety rating.

What a revival of the brand!

So apparently GNCAP tested last gen Dzire and gave Maruti an opportunity to improve the safety and that's when they said they have a new Dzire which they would like to test.

I am happy as both a consumer and a citizen that safety is becoming a crucial factor in car purchases today, and that the biggest automaker has finally decided to acknowledge this.

This shift will definitely impact Tata, which boasts about safety but tends to skip on after-sales service (ASS) and quality control (QC), as well as Hyundai and Kia, who have been reluctant to improve body shell integrity until now.

It’s a good time for consumers.clap:

This is great news from the market perspective. The most dominant market player upping its game in a critical area will be an impetus to other players also needing to do better due to competitive pressure. Tata will see tough times ahead - their USP of 'safe' cars is fading. Maruti will now squeeze them from one side and Mahindra from the other side. They need to do something about their 3-pot petrol mill and also new launches like the Sierra will need to be priced really well.

I read it twice to make sure I did it correctly the first time. lol:
Trading a 4-cylinder engine for a 3-cylinder one, while maintaining a 5-star safety rating, is a compromise many people would gladly make.
The giant has awakened, and I hope it fillips Hyundai to produce 5-star safety rated cars, Tata to improve its engines, quality, and after-sales service, and Honda to finally do something worthwhile. Otherwise, see their market share plummet.

Tata and Mahindra should no longer take customers for granted post-sales. This is a fabulous achievement by Maruti and hoping to see the same in other models. Even without a 5 Star safety rating, Maruti was selling in huge numbers and now with this certificate they can even price it higher and still make more sales.

Good day for consumers who prefer better after sales now.

Pleasantly surprised by this. Not just 5 stars, but also the body shell integrity is stable. Wonderful news! Expect the new Dzire to sell like hot cakes now.

If DZire can do 5-star safety rating, so can the Swift.

But did they add back the rear seatbelt weight sensors? Without them, the safety package is still incomplete. Why would general people in the rear seat bother to unbuckle seatbelts that are already buckled? Rear seatbelt reminder without weight sensors only leads to more unbelted passengers and not less.

This will take some time to sink in. Kudos to Maruti for this feat!
