Re: Made-in-India Maruti Ertiga scores 1 star in GNCAP | #SaferCarsForAfrica campaign

Someone in team-bhp once said "Don't use Maruti and Safety" in the same sentence and this still holds true .

I hope Maruti seriously do something about safety. Tata and Mahindra have certainly upped the game, and rightly so, on the safety factor.

Looks like Maruti only likes binary numbers when it comes to safety ratings.I only wonder how their premium products like Grand Vitara and invicto will fare in a crash test.

Re: Made-in-India Maruti Ertiga scores 1 star in GNCAP | #SaferCarsForAfrica campaign

Here's my point.

The Alto K10, which had a small celebration for its 2-star rating, would have also got 1 star if its side impact was as good as the Ertiga.

So would the Triber.

Just because GNCAP did some jugaad and didn't think it through.

Even without any critical issues, for any car without curtain airbags:
- a car with 10.4/16 in the front crash and 16/16 in the side test would get 1 star
- a car with just 2.2/16 in the frontal test and 7.8/16 in the side test would get 2 stars

I can understand GNCAP's intention to punish cars if their score is misleading because it's heavily biased by just one of the 2 tests, but not when the star rating is decided by some feature and has nothing to even do with the score.

Not that the Ertiga is great. It is surprising how Maruti still skimps out on one of India's most common people movers. E. g. I rode one a couple of weeks ago and was seething at the lap belt. And yes, it could do with better crash test performance as well.

But no, it does not deserve 1 star just because GNCAP can't do +2 maths.

Finally number #1 for maruti, this is a moment of jubilant celebration for the company .

Jokes aside, is anyone really surprised by this at this point? I am not even expecting the swift to crack 2 stars.

For earlier swift gens, even though the cars were not built well, it was peppy and exciting to drive but the current swift is anything but exciting to drive. I drove the new swift for about 70 kms and for the entire trip i was seething at how bang average the car felt vis-a-vis previous gens.
