Maruti Suzuki aims at better crash ratings with Swift, Dzire. Hoping to improve its track record at Global NCAP with 4 or 5 stars for its high-volume twin models.

The latest 4th generation Maruti Suzuki Swift, and its subcompact sedan alter-ego, the Maruti Suzuki Dzire will aim for strong scores from Global NCAP crash tests. The reworked ‘Heartect’ platform is now more in line with its structure seen on the same models from Suzuki in markets like Japan and Western Europe.

The first move in this direction was already seen at the launch of the new 4th generation Maruti Suzuki Swift. At the launch, the company announced that this is the first time a mass model will carry stability control (often designated as ESC/ Electronic Stability Control, or ESP/Electronic Stability Programme), and 6 airbags – as standard across all variants.

The Dzire, which launches later in the year, will also likely carry a similar claim – though there may be a taxi/fleet-only model that may have different specifications.

The two models may even undergo crash testing at both Bharat NCAP and Global NCAP within the next three to four months.

These will be voluntary tests – meaning the company will willingly provide its cars for said tests – and that would also be a first from Maruti Suzuki.

Remember that at the revised Global NCAP tests, a 5-star result also requires cars to be tested for side impact protection and high-speed stability testing.

A lot will also depend on whether the cars go to Global NCAP or Bharat NCAP, or both. The current scenario indicates that while the sedan will head to the former, the hatch may only be tested at Bharat NCAP.

With the recent facelifts across the board, hopefully, Maruti has improved on its safety and that may be the reason why they are now willing to voluntarily send their cars for the NCAP crash tests.

Even NEET question paper for low scorers can be bought/manipulated and the 'Out'-Standing students can be brought into the high 80-90 deg percentiles.

Maruti NCAP results must be so bad they are wondering how to release them!

Only hope for 3 Marutis to get 5* is say 1.75 + 1.75 + 1.5 star.

Government is helping Maruti & Toyota by waiving off taxes on fire-catching hybrids.

How much does it differ in case of death by pollution than by accident. In former case at least the hospitals can keep on some unemployed people (not to forget the likes of Sunita Narain & other NGOs).
In latter case, it is just insurance payout & file closed.

Apologies if I sound rude, but I feel road safety is equally important as clean environment.
