Makes sense. I remember watching a video on Motorinc where Kartikeya mentioned that Nexon is the first car in the segment to be “symmetrically” tested and fortified to withstand frontal and side impacts. Maybe that’s what has been done here as well. It would be interesting to get insights on how an engine design flaw for RHD car has been rectified by TATA.

Re: 2023 Tata Harrier, Safari score a 5-star rating in Global NCAP crash test

Good news for Indian buyers keep pouring in. First new Verna getting 5 star GNCAP rating and now Harrier and Safari also. With the all the features added in the recent launch and now with the backbone of top class safety rating, these two twins are going to give tough competition to XUV. Hope more and more manufacturers start focusing on safety aspects.

Re: 2023 Tata Harrier, Safari score a 5-star rating in Global NCAP crash test

I think MSIL may still brazen it out because they are primarily city, "suburban " cars and their customers might not feel the need for 6 airbags or 5 stars in that environment. They need mileage first followed by features and low cost of ownership. They also do not have much of a competition in the Alto/ WagonR/ Swift/ Baleno/ Dzire segments. Both TML and Hyundai pretty much run a " defocussed" portfolio there with the Tiago/ Tigor and Nios/ Aura/ I20. They have their halo products in the form of the Punch and the Exter to woo the crowds.

Re: 2023 Tata Harrier, Safari score a 5-star rating in Global NCAP crash test

The Safari & Harrier twins have all the fundamentals (looks, performance, features, safety) checked now! Kudos to Tata!

The next big mountain that TATA has to climb is the ASS. Hopefully they will focus on it and fix it, or at least make an attempt to fix it.

These twins should set the sales on fire. Competition to watch out - suddenly XUV700 looks dated and old!

Its the cabin roof lamp on rear seat sides, on each side. I suspect the curtain airbag deployment's explosive charge would have contributed to it getting kicked out. Will be interesting to see how it fairs in general. If its always being thrown out, or if this was a particular one off, purely for this impact.

Stereotyping aside "panels falling off" is not a usual problem with Tata cars (except on Team BHP perhaps). And especially - in case of a GNCAP standard crash test - small press-fit items coming off, is to be expected.

Re: 2023 Tata Harrier, Safari score a 5-star rating in Global NCAP crash test

This is absolutely brilliant news. All eyes will be on Maruti and Hyundai now. More so because VW stable has 5 Star rated cars, and same goes for Mahindra's flagship products and now Tata does it with a bang. Sure Hyundai is turning things around with the Verna bagging 5 Stars, but will it become company wide phenomenon with all cars in their stable and Kia's get 4 or 5 Stars remain to be seen.

I might be naive here, but I do feel that having read TBHP forum since years, that it does have a role to play in making Indians conscious about safe cars. People on this forum have relentlessly called out unsafe cars built by manufacturers over the years, and it does have a cascading effect, with lot of people questioning safety. With the sole exception of Maruti and Hyundai, other manufacturers have started making safer cars on better platforms. I wish that this becomes a norm rather than an exception.

Congratulations to Tatas, Harrier and Safari are amazingly engineered products marred by fit and finish issues and niggles. If they can overcome that perception, they can go places. Now if only we have cars that are complete in all aspects i.e. safety as well as loaded with features in the budget segment. Hope that day comes sooner than later.

We all know in our hearts that these SUVs are built like tanks, but until now, we've all been waiting for the official result. Kudos to Tata for making a statement.

Now, what matters most is the stress-free experience at the end of the day. TAMO needs to work on their A.S.S. with the highest priority.

Re: 2023 Tata Harrier, Safari score a 5-star rating in Global NCAP crash test

Saw the news yesterday. Smiled, chuckled, laughed with joy - super proud of Tata for rolling out one 5-star product after another. Tata set the standards, Mahindra followed....even Hyundai woke up and surprised us with the Verna's 5-star GNCAP rating.

Safety aside, just love how gorgeous the 2023 Safari & Harrier look. More handsome than some SUVs costing twice the money.

Big congrats, Tata! Big thank you from your customers.

I am concerned though. GNCAP is soon going to stop testing Indian cars - related thread. While they are going to support the Bharat-NCAP, it's still going to be a brand new test and I have serious concerns of whether the standards maintained will be comparable to the GNCAP or not. The Harrier & Safari might just be one of the last 5-star cars tested by the GNCAP.

Totally echo your thoughts. Had these 5 stars for Safari/Harrier come via BNCAP many people would have accepted with a pinch of salt. Kudos to Tata to ensure they were tested at Global NCAP

Brilliant news. Tata motors really proving it's doubters wrong by getting a perfect 5 star rating for their flagship products despite the rumours that it was a dangerous design.

Kudos!

Re: 2023 Tata Harrier, Safari score a 5-star rating in Global NCAP crash test

Wish TATA could develop a 250Bhp Turbo Petrol (+ LHD) and enter the Gulf market. Would so love to drive a Indian grown car in Dubai.

Exterior Looks - Great
Interior Looks - Great
Fit and Finish - Can improve
Chassis - Great
Safety - On Par with a Ford Truck

Lack of Turbo Petrol (250+BHP) and LHD is badly wanted.

Also needed is AWD/4WD to make it a much wanted product in western countries. Dont know why TATA is holding back its ambition and the fire to grow bigger. They have the money, only thing they need is a Visionary & Dreams-to-Reality maker like Mr.Dhabar Behram (Ex-M&M).

Had you put a similar effort in checking out the Hyundai Verna crash test video, you'd see some clips and bits flying off. It's a crash. Bits will fly. Be it Tata or a Rolls Royce.

Indeed.
Alejandro Furas, Global NCAP Secretary General said,

“Global NCAP congratulates Tata on the five star twin model rating for the Safari and Harrier. This very strong result, the top adult and child safety score in our testing to date, confirms the manufacturer’s strong commitment to developing safer vehicles which we warmly welcome and applaud.”
