Re: 2023 Tata Harrier, Safari score a 5-star rating in Global NCAP crash test

Congratulations, Tata!

The Safari and the Harrier have become excellent SUVs, covering all aspects now .

-They aren't just SUVs; they are the best-looking SUVs in the segment, turning heads wherever they go!

-Packed with a long list of features & tech, they practically have more gadgets than a sci-fi movie!

-Safety? Oh, they aced it with a shining 5-star rating along with a host of safety features like level 2 ADAS tech, 6 airbags, ESC, 3-point seatbelts for everyone (safety party, anyone?), rear disc brakes, front & rear parking sensors, and more!

All they need now is a powerful petrol engine to make them the ultimate all-rounders!

This is brilliant and makes these cars an even more compelling proposition!

Kudos to Tata & Mahindra to bring safety awareness to the forefront and good to see the usual suspects like Hyundai taking heed now (6 airbags across all cars and 5 stars on the Verna!)

Re: 2023 Tata Harrier, Safari score a 5-star rating in Global NCAP crash test

Wow! While it was known that Safari & the Harrier are tough & well-built car, but there was always a doubt regarding the crash ratings because of the obvious flaw we all know about. This will silence all the doubts & critics. I actually thought that GNCAP will only be done with the upcoming Petrol versions & for the Diesel, it will be just BNCAP. But Kudos to Tata that they have finally managed to get the twins GNCAP rated.

Re: Tata Safari and Harrier Score full 5 star Rating in GNCAP

That's a very good result from Tata. Outstanding achievement considering they have almost all cars as a 5 Star rated other than Tiago and Tigor.

I saw the videos and couldn't help but notice that the car with sunroof ( golden Safari in this case) and the one without sunroof ( white Harrier in this case ) have slightly different outcomes for the side pole impact test. The Harrier has fared better with less intrusion of the pole than the Safari.

I've tried to keep the timestamp as near similar but Harrier's elapsed time is more post pole test (as visible on right lower side).

It's great to see that there was no intrusion in the footwell area as it was discussed earlier in one of the threads how the FIAT 2.0L engine has some fuel/oil filter that intrudes into the footwell area of driver side because this engine was made for LHD vehicles and Tata was using it for RHD vehicles. Good to see that that particular discussion can be laid to rest now.

When Global NCAP had released the results of Hyundai Verna, they had said that it was one of the final cars to be tested by G-NCAP and now cars will come with BHARAT-NCAP results from 1st October 2023. No idea how Harrier and Safari were tested by them.

Re: 2023 Tata Harrier, Safari score a 5-star rating in Global NCAP crash test

Well done TATA!!

Really happy seeing the company taking feedback (not something Tata is known for) and reading the market well.

Keeping the rest of the features aside, hydraulic steering and doubts over safety ratings were winning XUV700 a lot of sales.

The only major issue left for Tata to deal with is increasing its oversight on the ASC and mending all that is wrong. I can see buyers still having reservations over buying Harrier or Safari as the two cars pack in a lot of tech and hence potential issues which the Tata ASC just doesn't inspire confidence towards helping resolve if something goes wrong.

Interesting times ahead for the Indian car market and the commitment of homegrown brands to safety have pushed foreign brands to level up too (Hyundai with the new 5-star rated Verna).

Re: Tata Safari and Harrier Score full 5 star Rating in GNCAP

This is really good news. The fact that TATA waited for the facelift before getting these cars tested means they may done some remediation in the facelift to mitigate some issues in the pre-facelift model. In any case, this well put the rest any and all speculation about the safety of the harrier in the Safari. What's even more interesting is such a high score in frontal crash tests - scoring 33 out of a max 34 points! This ranges in the 29.XX for the next 3 safest cars - Virtus/Slavia, Taigun/Kushaq and ScorpioN.

All one needs now it's a powerful turbo petrol automatic on these cars, to provide full-on competition to the XUV700

Re: 2023 Tata Harrier, Safari score a 5-star rating in Global NCAP crash test

Just Wow...
Congratulations to Tata Motors. Really appreciate their efforts in making safe cars. Harrier/Safari safety rating was a long pending topic.

With this facelift, Tata has come with a very aggressive stand. No stones left behind (I know we still don't get 4x4, AWD).

No more ranting about safety ratings now. I just hope this rating is also applicable for pre-facelift models which I doubt because of the absence of 1 airbag.

Re: Tata Safari and Harrier Score full 5 star Rating in GNCAP

TATA motors take a bow! Yesterday had posted that at least 4* rating would be icing on cake. What a surprise with 78 out of 83 points!!! The safest rated car in India. The bar has been set very high, would be nice to see the one who can better this results. In a couple of years, there won't be any cars less than 5* from the TATA stable. This news will be enough to propel the sales of the facelifted version to their best ever. TATA motors has single handedly altered the perception regarding safety in India. Wish they concentrate on the service aspect now.

What seems clear to me is that manufacturers are now actively seeking validation of their much touted attributes. A GNCAP score puts things beyond doubt for the regular customer.

Tata knocking it out of the park! kudos to you guys.

But how did they manage to do it? I thought it's not possible with Fiat's Engine in left hand side driven countries.

If it's still possible, Jeep has been ignoring all this while?

Safest vehicles in India at the moment and looking at their scores 33.05/34 and 45/49 they are going to stay at top as safest vehicles of India for a very long time

Re: Tata Safari and Harrier Score full 5 star Rating in GNCAP

Amazing job by Tata.... Nobody believed the Harrier/Safari with Fiat engine would get a 5*

Not only did it get a 5 Star, but also got the highest rating by Gncap for a Indian make. The timing just before the launch couldn't have been better.

Bring on the Pricing!

Re: 2023 Tata Harrier, Safari score a 5-star rating in Global NCAP crash test

Hopefully this will reduce the whataboutery on every safety thread, Where the Harriers safety ratings were talked about even when the discussion was about Maruti.

The Indian companies have shown that they are very serious about the safety crown. Which over the years has rubbed off on a few other manufacturers too.

Re: Tata Safari and Harrier Score full 5 star Rating in GNCAP

Congratulations to Tamo & to owners (for sure the ones that buy now on)!

My key takeaways -
  • Perfection in timing. They have stretched this as far as possible. Results are out along with the FL pricing. And - after the 7OO's hype has settled down, facelift of Seltos is already out and priced. Not much will arrive soon now to steal the Harrier/Safari's thunder! And they released it after the traditionally critical TBHP review is out . Naughty Tata!
  • There's no marginal score anywhere. Every score is resoundingly and reassuringly high! The occupants really will be safe all round.
  • If we look at the video of the frontal offset test - the A pillars, LH fender, Bonnet, windshield, doors, roof panel, sunroof - all are absolutely intact. Not even deformities. Thats really a tank! Insurance folks may say "this is repairable, not a total loss ". And the shell is still stable for further loading. Thats reassuring.

So now -
5 Star GNCAP
  1. Nexon
  2. Altroz
  3. Punch
  4. Harrier
  5. Safari

4 Star GNCAP
  1. Tiago
  2. Tigor

And no cars below 4 star GNCAP Rating. I guess thats the safest car line-up on sale in our market right now (considering its 7 cars in total). Brilliant! Congratulations to the TaMo employees.

Amazing news for the Indian auto-story. And for us - customers.
I'm glad this came out via the Global-NCAP tests, and not the upcoming B-NCAP, which I'm yet to be fully convinced about.

I'll have a good day today!
