Two of the incidents were when I was in Audi, on ORR. Sometimes, luxury cars are more prone to be targeted. In one of the (relatively minor), one guy on foot, pretending to cross the road, at the back of my car in stop go traffic, started behaving as if I hit him while travelling and started banging by car by hand and tried to create a scene. I just kept driving.

My other (first) incident involved other car an SX4 (on ORR) in which the gang actually damaged my side view mirror but still no other damage or money paid.

BTW, I just ordered a new front and rear dashcam after this incident.

My current front only dashcam was clumsy, no APP/Wifi interface, downloading/playback was a long process. From some of the posts I realized how important it could be to load the footage on your phone and show to mobs to overturn the prejudice against you at that important moment.

Having seen the utility of rear dashcams myself on the road live (here: https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/road-...hcam-well.html (Why you need a rear dashcam as well)), rear dashcam plus upgrade was inevitable.

Yeah, I told them that 'I'll pay only once the cops came and would follow their advice and so let's wait'. Looked it up and the number I used was 9480801000. I dont know if you can use this these days

I once had a casual conversation with a retired Security Guard which I find to be words of wisdom. He mentioned that the very presence of a security guard is supposed to inhibit the crime from taking place, and if any untoward incidents happens in spite of their presence, guards aren't supposed to display any acts of heroism as exhibited in movies, but to let the Police personnel catch the culprits at later point in time. The guard in this instance seem to be from the same school of thought .

Security Guard is just paid Rs 10,000 per month salary and for such a small amount they will not risk their life by intervening in such situations. Security guard knows that if even he is fired for not taking action, within a week he will get the same work in the next apartment.

Re: Alarming incident caught on dashcam - Assault & road rage by thugs in Bangalore

People priorities are misplaced, they are ready to splurge on most expensive vehicles, go to high end resorts but not ready to spend more on hiring more security guards or better paid security guards.
When something happens, poor security guard has no motivation or training to handle emergency situations.
Unfortunately, incidents like above keep on happening, it is just matter of time.
In our country, difference due to unequal wealth difference, this is primary motivation factor to settle things. Above incident is just one example.

Re: Alarming incident caught on dashcam - Assault & robbery attempt by thugs in Bangalore

Very disturbing. We, the normal people/citizens are all so vulnerable. We are almost defenceless. The culprits were fearless enough to carry out the heinous crime in broad daylight. Their following the car to the owner's apartment and completely overpowering the security shows their determination to complete the crime. I am not sure what the motive behind all this action was. Was it only dadagiri or a planned extortion attempt or something else? I hope the concerned government officials manage to use the correct Indian penal codes to put them behind bars for a considerable amount of time. Otherwise, in no time, there could be many more such gangs committing similar crimes as thugs are everywhere in good numbers.

Mod Note: Please avoid typing with excessive dots.........like................this.

Witnessed a similar incident today few minutes ago at Silk Board junction. Noticed a Curcuma Yellow Taigun do a rash overtake almost swiping the barriers where service road joins main hosur road. Minutes later, an Ertiga blocked the Taigun's path, and the driver got out and gave two huge blows with bare hands, one each on bonnet and windshield. It was enough to dent the bonnet and break the windshield instantly. The drama didn't end there, I had to pass.

Having looked at the videos, I am tempted to ask why the 'driver with family' didn't hard accelerate away to the first cop station irrespective of the damage to their own as well as the other vehicle. Which cop is not going to register a complaint at that very moment considering video proof? Why roll down windows and expect to have a lucid conversation?
Putting myself in that driver's seat, I'd have done just this. But then, I have not been put in such a spot.
Still, clarity helps.. I feel.

The only cops around that area are stationed at;
A. The entrance to Bandipur from the KA side.
B. Then at the Bandipur camp itself.
C. Next at the border between Bandipur and Mudumalai.
D. And after that, at Masinagudi in TN.
OR
E. at the exit towards Gudalur.

All of these are check posts excepting one or two and the cops are primarily there to check for contraband, alcohol, DUI, Timber and to some extent regulate traffic movement and of course supervise the collection of ‘entry fee’. The Forest Officers and guards/ rangers are few and far between and anyway do not hang about in the main road.

Effectively then, you’re on your own, unless of course, you’re in a convoy (and it looks as if nowadays it is best to travel about in convoys comprising of tough guys of multiple ‘local’ ethnicities and who have ‘pull’.) Because we as a nation seem to have made considerable progress on the path to lawlessness and anarchy and thence, it is but a short step onto the road to perdition.

Now, coming back to this issue, what we see on the video is the aggression of the men in the Thar. We do not know what happened earlier. Whether the family (driver) overtook the Thar aggressively or not at some point. Or perhaps provoked them in some way.

I am not condoning those four thugs. They definitely ought to be punished severely and locked up for many years. We, the tax paying road users of this country, irrespective of our state of origin, are certainly entitled to a proper controlled law and order situation from the government, which runs based on our taxes.

But the inescapable fact is that, as an user of this road for several decades, I have also seen all sorts of bad driving and poor behaviour on this stretch, from all sorts of people, many of them who look like otherwise educated persons and normal families.

Sadly the worst behaviour I have seen is mostly from Year 2002-2003 onwards; the last 20 years. (Coincidentally this is exactly the time frame in which vehicle ownership and leisure travel by road has grown exponentially.) Rather than be respectful of the sanctuary and wildlife people drive fast, overtake irresponsibly, play loud music, stop in the middle of the road to take photos, eat and throw litter etc.

All this brings us straight back to the fact that with increasing population, changing socio-economic situations, shortening attention spans, greed, impatience, bullying and the rise of petty parochialism topped off by the overall apparent incapability of the authorities to guarantee law and order, it is best to try and avoid any sort of confrontations with people of this kind and anyway have dashboard cameras in all vehicles, keep some means of self-defence handy and of course, at all times be alert and watchful.

After all, when the odds are so heavily stacked against normal people, then discretion is definitely the better part of valour. And he who fights and runs away, lives to fight another day.

I do agree with your last two paras, and was stating the same.. avoid confrontation/discussion. Nothing constructive is likely to happen. Plot a route and accelerate out of the confrontational zone causing least damage.

I’ve been driving through Bandipur/Mudumalai route to go to North Kerala yearly since 2008. Indeed, driving etiquettes on highways have become pits over the years. Got run off the road by an illegal overtaking Karnataka state bus near Gundlupet on one of the initial trips.. in my shiny new car.

Came face to face with cops in Hubli trying to gyp me for running a red light when I clearly hadn’t. They mistook my phone on the suctionholder as a dashcam, and let me be. Since then, I’ve had a dashcam on all my vehicles. Never had to use them though. Touchwood. 14 yrs now.

These days I do carry a pepper spray in the driver’s door slot, gifted by a friend.

Re: Alarming incident caught on dashcam - Assault & road rage by thugs in Bangalore

A video has been doing its rounds on Whatsapp. Based on the video, on Jan 7th, a group of people driving a safari almost fell victim to a case of assault and extortion. Not sure what triggered the incident, but looks like the usual modus operandi.

I am unable to attach videos and so posting a link to the twitter account that has the video. This though is not the entire video https://twitter.com/ManabendraTrip1/...09726626476212

Summary - A few guys block access to the car by placing one of the two wheelers in front of it. The car runs over the two wheeler(that's how scary the situation was for them) to escape the guys trying to make them get out of the car. They seem to have finally reached the police station. Not sure if anyone here has updates on this case.

Mods - please do move this to another thread if it makes sense.

Seems like this link is broken. As per this article, the accused have been booked. The funniest part of all this is the bikers followed the car to the police station - making the job easier for police!
