Guess it’s the same Latin NCAP where even new Tucson scored only 3 stars. Very impressive performance by VW, as expected.

Yes 3 stars for 6 airbag variant and 0 stars for the base variant with 2 airbags, News link.

I can't understand how that car sells in India. That too for 40lacs! I can understand buyers compromising on safety when spending under 20lacs but with several well equipped alternatives in that range, the Tucson should not be selling even as much as it is.

I am not sure what parameters were considered in Latin NCAP. However, you cannot compare Hyundai Tucson with other Hyundai models in India. Hyundai Tucson is a CKD with superior fit and finish when compared with other Hyundai cars in India. I agree on the price point though. It (along with Jeep Compass) should have been 5-6L lesser than the current price.

It's extremely likely the same variant was used in the Latin NCAP as the one that is sold in India.

Re: Made-in-India VW Taigun scores 5 stars in the Latin NCAP

Congratulations to VW. To see an Indian-made car setting an example for safety globally is something to be quite proud of. This might explain why VW decided to change the name of the made-in-India Mexican-market car from T-Cross to Taigun (for a few months Taigun was exported as T-Cross). The reason is, the Brazilian-built T-Cross is still sold without ADAS, and Latin NCAP would have wanted to rate that instead.

Quite impressed with the structural performance in the frontal impact. It's even better than the RHD car. Also, for anyone who had a doubt about how sunroofs affect performance, here's your chance.

Hope to see rear seatbelt reminders and standard 6 airbags on the Indian Taigun too. Competitors already have them.

Although '3 stars for a Hyundai' sounds familiar the Tucson's Latin NCAP rating is nothing like that issued by GNCAP for the Indian Creta and Carens. Indeed the updated Latin American Tucson was specced similar to the Indian one but there's a catch. Latin NCAP has 4 boxes - one for each area of assessment. Adult protection, Child Protection, VRUs and Safety Assist. The score in each box is associated with a maximum star rating. The overall rating = the lowest of ratings allowed by each box.

The Tucson comfortably exceeded 5-star limits for adult protection and VRUs and 4 stars for child occupants (no passenger airbag disconnection). The reason for the Tucson's 3-star rating is that it couldn't meet 4-star requirements in the safety assist box because it's ADAS score was not included.

FWIW, Latin NCAP claims to have tested the Tucson's ADAS and claim it performed well. It was not included in the assessment because to be counted it needs to be standard or a STANDALONE (not bundled with anything) option in each of the 40 LatAm/Caribbean markets Latin NCAP covers.

You can see then why the result is of little significance for India.

Hello, Here's a thread on Tucson safety rating on team-bhp: https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/road-...0-stars-5.html (Latin NCAP: 2022 Hyundai Tucson scores 0 stars).

It will be super helpful for you if you go through it, and try to understand Tucson's safety rating. Please read up before just looking at the headline and commenting. "The devil is in details"

Also, here's a thread on Hyundai Tucson 2022 where owners have shared their happy ownership experiences: https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/offic...review-67.html (2022 Hyundai Tucson Review)

Another feather in the VAG's cap. Bravo

That said, I wont be surprised to see their sales numbers shrinking further while certain other cars with "unstable body shells" and such will keep flying off-the-shelf like hot cakes.

Irony dies a thousand deaths everyday in India.

Tucson is much better car compared to the ones available from Hyundai in our market. It also received 5 stars from Euro NCAP in 2021, not sure if the tested model was different from the one in Latin NCAP.

Regarding the price, Tucson sells in parallel to Tiguan internationally so pricing is poor across different brands.

Wow. VW does it again!!! Earlier we were debating we shouldn't be overly concerned about Tuscon's 0 star rating as the norms were allegedly stricter for Latin NCAP when compared to Euro. Now, a car with less than half the price of Tuscon does it. VAG seems to set a benchmark for budget cars in terms of build quality and safety. Again, earlier everyone spoke like MQB A0 is trimmed down on build quality, which has been proved wrong many times over.

The term build quality was used in the context of fit & finish of the interior trims etc, and that is clearly evident for the keen eyed people. VW didn't skimp on critical components and areas like structural rigidity and dynamics etc, but surely they did cutback on many other areas, in fact that is the sole purpose of Indianization of MQB-A0 to MQB-A0-IN.

Awesome! But don't expect it to sell any more, that's for panoramic sunroofs, digital MIDs & multi colored ambient lighting on a structurally compromised body shell.
