Re: Ego: A major cause of road accidents What is the ' most bragged' statement among drivers of all hues and color: I can go from Point A to Point B in so and so time (i.e. lesser time than yours').
I have heard many private drivers from NCR towns claiming that they can do the 300 odd KM to Chandigarh in ~4 hours. That requires an average speed of 75 KMPH !!!.
Unfortunately, no one brags about reaching safely, that I reached my destination without crossing the speed limit, without jumping the red light, without cutting through lanes .
The core of all this erratic driving in any form is lack of law enforcement. We, Indians, are law-fearing and not law-abiding. If the traffic rules are strictly and honestly enforced, our roads will be much safer. The egos will be automatically controlled.
Recall the 2010 commonwealth games when right most lane on few Delhi Roads was earmarked for delegates with yellow line. The strict penalty and punishment for entering this lane was widely published in media with examples. Result: No one dared to enter that reserved lane.
