AFAIK, the organization is currently funded by the UN and not any particular country. I think the current test serves it's purpose - exposing vehicles which are sub-par in safety and creating some awareness. Quote:

100% agree. As responsible citizens, we must educate our friends & relatives to buying safer cars/demanding for safety. Once there's a market big enough, the auto makers will sell cars with safety features. Quote:

Not to play devil's advocate, but just curious:
1. How many people among these 150k are on 2/3 wheelers?
2. How many of them were pedestrians?
3. How many are in the light commercial vehicles like the Tata ace?
4. Is vehicle defined as something with >2 axles & >4 wheels?
5. How many deaths were due to collision with livestock/wild animal?
No disputing that we need safer vehicles - but we also need better driver training and infrastructure.
The latter is going to bring down the death toll more than just NCAP alone.
