Completely agreed. There's no excuse for running over a pedestrian. In attempting to follow that rule though, 3 cars collided and one guy had his arm fractured. Sure, all of that damage is relatively reparable as compared to running over a pedestrian, but it's still damage.

Wouldn't it be better if the pedestrian follows certain basic laws and doesn't cause any unintended accidents as well?

Similar to "there's no excuse to running over a pedestrian", some basic tenets of "don't put yours and others's lives at risk by jaywalking" should also be promoted. It's not about passing the blame from driver to pedestrian or the other way. Simply a way to make our roads safer for both. A controlled pedestrian will help control a car better and keep everyone safe.

It's too much to expect honestly, but yeah - ideal case scenario. On our roads, just to be on the safer side, the driver needs to be ever ready for surprises because finally, it's him/her controlling a hurtling ton of metal.

I wouldn't say that. There are instances in which pedestrians put themselves in a situation where being run over is inevitable. Pedestrians can certainly cause accidents, and should be responsible.

The lesson is about an attitude, not necessarily about every possible situation in practice.

I think we are on the same page here

It's time we have a dedicated law about jaywalking, to protect both pedestrians and motorists. I noticed that all the charges that the police have imposed are relatively generic, that's going to be an annoying issue for the pedestrian as well if it gets to court.
