Last week I was driving from Nayandahalli towards Kengeri. As usual because of Metro, two flyovers, the road is not that good and you have to drive slowly. After about 100 mts from the junction, I head a loud braking sound (with all windows rolled up), I see in the rear view mirror a car hitting a two wheeler from behind and the two wheeler rider falling down. Then the car swerves to the right and climbs the median.

The car guy should have been driving very fast for this to happen. I stopped for a while on the road since it was night and no vehicles behind me. Lot of people rush fast towards the spot and I leave wondering about them. Thank fully there is a high tech hospital just to the side.

True to large extent, but when people are hellbent on giving up their lives, I wonder how many can cops chase down in that scenario?
Police is responsible for maintaining law and order but aren't we supposed to protect our lives more ferociously than simply leaving it to a policeman to protect us.

Indeed I agree to what you say. But its when people do not understand their own responsibility, the authorities should enforce.
After all its not just their own lives that they put at stake, it is also the other party in the accident, which might not be at any fault.

Hope everything is OK. Please do keep the thread posted.

Today while going to office around 1:30 pm, I saw some remains of a car (bumper, head lamps) lying on road divider on Windsor Manor bridge (Bangalore). By looking at parts, appeared to be Swift.

Has anyone got details of it?

I saw some horrible accidents on Indian National Highways / Express roads. In most cases it's due to sheer negligence, over confidence and utter disregard to themselves (and family/friends in cars) and for other lives on the roads. One daemon in driving deaths is Alcohol or drunk driving (unsurprisingly, in 60%+ rape cases too).

No wonder why 135,000 Indians lost their lives in 2011. This figure could be brought down drastically if Drivers, Govt and Law Enforcement work in most efficient manner, but...

Compared to the USA where death rate is about 1/4th (33,000) for the same year, though the numbers were brought down from 44,000 level in 2005. However, rate is not good considering its Superpower status. But still Law Enforcement works tirelessly and no wonder why many Indians are scared to break the law there...

Today I saw an accident happen live near Kannadasan Statue Junction in T.Nagar. A Santro was slowing down to a halt before a signal as it turned red. I was behind it and to its right and I was slowing down too. I heard a two wheeler coming from behind continuously honking as if he wanted the Santro not to stop so he can get through the signal. Just as I stopped I saw the two-wheeler (like Activa) ram into the Santro which had stopped. The two wheeler had two occupants(male rider and female passenger) who were very lucky that this was a Santro that bore the brunt of the impact. The Santro driver, a girl, got out and an argument broke out, with the girl gesturing at the red signal. Then the girl asked the two wheeler guy to pull to the side as the traffic behind was getting restless. That said the girl got into the Santro and parked it on the road side.

Guess what the two wheeler guy did? Well he accelerated and pushed recklessly into the cross traffic violating the red light. Luckily there was no fatal incident and the two wheeler took the right somehow. The girl was shocked when she realized that the guy had escaped.

Knowing two wheelers, I had already memorized the number plate. But there was no way I could pull over. So once the green light came on I crossed the junction and parked my car on the side, and walked to the police station near Panagal Park. I was pretty sure the Santro had also left. But just in case, I wanted to ensure information reached the concerned authorities.

I gave the details about the hit-and-run and signal violation. But the cop said they can't take action unless the involved party themselves file a complaint. They however took down the registration number (TN09BM7104).

Here is my advice to all two wheelers. Sure everyone likes to go home as soon as possible. Sure you may not value your life or your passenger's life as much. But please avoid the following:
1. Driving without responsibility towards self and others property and lives.
2. Disregarding traffic rules and driving ethics.

As to the lack of response at the police station, that was mostly expected. I am going to inform the office of a top cop and request for due action as per law because a crime that is allowed to go unpunished is just encouraging the culprit.

As per my experience with similar Chennai two wheeler riders they would have just argued with car driver why she stopped for red signal. Had a similar experience few months back. Luckily escaped without any damage to my car.

As I work in SEEPZ, Mumbai, yesterday we heard of a fatal accident near Gate No. 3 on Jogeshwari Vikroli Link Road.

This was confirmed today morning:
http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/c...w/18141566.cms

A Car (Call Center Indica) hit six women who got down from Best Bus & were crossing the road. The Taxi driver was overtaking the bus & could not notice the women who suddenly energed from front of the bus.

Also read in newspapers that yesterday, two bikers were killed in Matunga in seperate incidents. One 19 year old was hit by Taxi & another 57 year old person was hit by a truck.

Thanks,

Sad that the girls were hit by the car fatally. People think that crossing the road from the front of buses aids them. But seems to be an idiotic thing to do, though it is the norm in our country.
