re: Accidents in India | Pics & Videos

That is one junction where people drive about without any regards for the traffic signal.

I did hear about this accident yesterday from a friend when she passed through the junction in the afternoon.

Did you see, the bus is almost touching the base of the flyover? Engineering miscalculation or it's due to the angle of the photo?

That concrete truck will be a complete write off if the concrete sets inside the mixer, which it most likely will in this case as the truck does not seem to be in a condition to be driven.
Can they not just change the mixer compartment? Will the whole truck be a writeoff?

Unfortunately, the only cure at this time for the above said disease is through some hard crashes. The truck cabin seems to have suffered major damage. Abuses, arguments and counter arguments were flying from all sides.
while waiting for my turn to turn into Madiwala market, i noticed the same cement truck being towed by JCB (earth mover) at the Madiwala junction.

It's the angle of the photo, the flyover is much higher.

Completely agree, thats my daily route. No one including state transport buses ready to wait for their turn/signal, I have seen many times that the traffic police is standing at the bus stop, just a few meters away from that signal and still people jump the signal easily, two wheelers and auto guys are regular to jump this signal and now a days most cars also do that. Can something be done about this? Can we report this to Bangalore traffic police about this!
I have some pictures taken from this junction and another from EjiPura junction (here people take U-trun even if there is a signboard for 'No U-turn' and block the traffic - sometimes even when cops are around) to be posted on fb page of bangalore traffic polic, I was just wondering if they act on this.

While scrolling down, I thought the accident was the top of the bus colliding with the flyover!
But them reading ahead and seeing the whole pic, i realized the whole scene!

That actually becomes evident through the second pic. The gap is actually visible.
This should go for some photography award!

Initial thought: The bus could be over speeding because there are very little chances that a bus overturns when hit by a jeep! Also the front wheels of the bus are in such a way that suggests that it might have overturned due to centrifugal force.
Well do not know the road conditions in that area and the side of the road where the accident happened so I could be very wrong!
May the deceased R.I.P.

Comments welcomed!

An observation I made is that the injured are transferred to some Government hospital whereas there is a hospital right in front of the accident spot, if you look at the last picture!

Nice observation alstonlobo. Seems its the police's duty to take the injured only to government hospitals (though I do not have much knowledge on this part) and may be that is the reason. I agree, they should have been admitted to the hospital nearby.
Hope the injured recover soon and there are no more casualties.

The small private hospitals generally refuse to accept emergencies and medico legal cases,

1) Most of the time they are basic hospitals for fever, cold, minor diseases etc.
2) Availability of specialist doctors, equipments is less.
3) Even if point no. 2 is available, the harassment of the hospital staff by police, relatives in case the unfortunate happens, is too high.

I have had experiences were reasonably big pvt. hospital did not give me first aid, when i mentioned i was hit by a bike while walking on the road. The injury was not severe, but bleeding profusely and the hospital staff insisted on police case, govt. hospital referral etc.

The road bank is designed to flip any car that goes off the road. Extremely poor and dangerous design. NICE should level the bank on right hand side and use Aluminum road dividers.

Till our drivers dont gather enough common sense I am sure no amount of safety will help. Even if they put up aliminium dividers, I am sure some one will flip over that too. Moreover the main purpose of that banking is water drainage and it has been shaped in such a way to prevent illegal 'U' turns.

If they level it, somebody will come rip out a few dividers and make an illegal crossing there.

The bunk design has only 1% role to play in this and similar accidents on this road IMO.

As also evident in the picture, the nice road is designed to be a 2.5 lane road (0.5 lane for two wheelers on the far left)
every morning/evening, cars/cabs alike, make it a four lane road overtaking in all directions like hell.

The trucks do overtake each other and occupy two lanes.
but too many people are too impatient to wait for the overtaking move to finish.
They don't give a damn about the two wheelers' safety or their own safety.

the right most part of the road has a small width after the lane marking (again evident in the picture).
cars take two wheels on this part and two wheels off the road on the bunk to overtake and to "save time"(as though they use this saved time to launch Brahmos).

looks like this Indica guy has attempted one such thing and failed in the execution and from there the bunk design has taken over and flipped the vehicle.

adding to what vikram_d has posted, these accidents happen only because common sense is so uncommon among our people
