Don't know why Police don't take actions on removing the crowds simultaneously. Perhaps the Fire tenders would have arrived sooner to douse the Nagpur carrier.

I had a bad accident last year on NH8 when a bus hit us from behind and the car went offroad, turned turtle twice before stopping with not a single wheel left intact. It was nasty, but it was the crowd who helped us and took ome of us to a hospital. If we had waited for the police or roadassistance to come we might have been helpless for another hour almost. Really thankful that people stopped by that day while the bus had fled on highway. Since then i myself stop to chk if anyone needs help or assistance whenever i see an accident

Alston, that section of NH 48 is well laid and well painted to indicate no overtaking zones. But people have no clue what a solid white line stands for. And this kind of jeeps are the public transport there. While driving to Mangalore today morning, I almost crashed into one such jeep that had stopped in the middle of the road to fix a flat. And these jeeps always stop in the middle of the road to pick up and drop passengers. Needless to say, they do not have any tail lights or indicators in functioning condition.
I also had a close call with a Ritz that tried overtaking at a blind curve and drifted into opposite (my) lane. But I always expect this, so I was alert. There is no option to go off the road also ; because the road level is quite high after recent asphalting (something that forces these jeeps to stop on the road) Sometimes I wonder if a drive is worth these troubles. But yeah, these curves are fun to drive in and bus will not give me that pleasure!

However, another Palio MJD was not as lucky, in the ghat section just after Sakleshpur (where the roads are not painted or marked). A really fast driven Indica in front of me drifted to its right while overtaking at a steep left curve, and crashed into that oncoming Palio's right. Indica's front was totally smashed, but Palio only had minor injuries (deep dents) to its right. But it got pushed off the road, and its left rear wheel got bent.
Fortunately, no one was injured. I gave them Fiat's hotline number and Hassan service centre's number (for Indica guy's help also) and also spoke to the service advisor (who I know personally).
Why is Fiat not advertising its 24 hour helpline! These guys had no idea such a facility existed.

Their demeanor is praise-worthy!!!

True. Saw hundreds of tired-looking truck drivers during my Mumbai trip (NH4) Its hard to be a truck driver. They drive 1000s of kms in a single trip. They're exhausted. So please give them some extra space. Its nice to slow down and let them go instead of making them brake. We can always overtake him later.

Thanks for posting.
EDIT: http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fb...type=1&theater

accidents happen but anyone who drives above 40 and/ or tries to overtake in this country has themselves to blame. No point in selling all these powerful vehicles here. People have to be educated on the basics of driving. Accidents will still happen but probably loss of life will be less

Any Ideas about a Weird accident that took place on Pune-Nigdi Bridge today. Brake failed truck jumped divider, hitting a Mercedes and a Bike. Casualties: 5 dead, 1 Injured. May they RIP.

saw this accident on the opposite lane on the IRR (before Dell) this morning. looks like the Corolla rear-ended the i10.

Unpleasant sight on ECR, heading South, just before Crocodile Bank.

Upside-down Alto, then a short distance further on, an Innova [?] with a tree stuck in its nose.

I wouldn't want to have been in the alto. I should think the fate of the Innova occupants would depend entirely on seat belts.

This was mid afternoon yesterday. There was a police van still there.

The tanker was going on the slope. The driver lost control and jumped the divider. First it hit a two wheeler and both the rider and pillion (husband and wife) were killed. Husband was a PCMC employee and was on the way to his son's house. Then it jumped on top of the Merc. A reputed builder from Pune and his associate were killed in that. Very sad. RIP.

Holy cow! Thats bad! Who is/was the reputed builder ?
There is also some news on a KPN travels' sleeper bus which was gutted in flames. 22 feared killed. Any news/pics on that yet ?

Just read this online today : 23 charred to death as bus catches fire in Tamil Nadu - The Times of India . 23 killed and the driver is absconding.

Even I am watching the news. 22 dead in Vellore when an AC bus crashed and caught fire. Driver and a passenger survived. Police says that driver claims he saved 2 people. The bus crashed into something on the left of the road, after trying to avoid collision with already collided trucks.
But these news channels are just not talking about how this accident could have been avoided. Why couldn't the bus driver spot the broken down trucks? Because the trucks had no functioning tail lights or hazard lights. Why can't the law hold them responsible, instead of the bus driver?

By the looks of it, it did not look like a Volvo or Mercedes bus. Anyway, these buses have engines in the rear and so catching fire during frontal impact is unlikely.
