So, there we have it, the reason why the i10 looks like it was torn to shreds. The little car couldnt take the might of the Audi's impact owing to the momentum it possessed at those crazy speeds, and it resulted in one of the occupants losing his life. Why blame the i10 alone?

No car on Indian roads is expected to take a side on crash at 100 kmph without any ramifications.

You can see the euro NCAP test video for side impact, again NCAP measures the impact at 50 KMPH, and the Audi was more than double the speed, hence you may expect the same for any B-C segment car
YouTube - Euro NCAP | Hyundai i10 | 2008 | Crash test

As per Indian regulations Full Frontal Impact tests are carried out at a speed of 56kmph and Side Impact tests are carried out at 50kmph.
I believe that the Audi must have hit the i10 at much higher speeds as a result of which i10 rolled over twice or thrice before coming to stand still.

I feel bad about this. I think Car companies, dealers, Insurance & GOI (may be), local bodies should allow TD in specifc area of city. May be they can book a ground buy piece of land where TD can be done. Near my home, we have Maruti showroom, lot of newbies come there and try their hands on demo cars & our lives too. Maruti showroom guy check their driving license before allow them to drive, but that's not enough. If someone makes mistake, people and sometime some other cars take hit. we have schools, marriage halls next to showroom. I knew case where someguy tried to drive new demo car near by hill, he could not control car & it went down in vally, that guy died. In one of showroom of Maruti on Pune-Mumbai high way, I met with sales guy who said, he don't drive anymore because he met accident while he was sitting next to the newbie drive on TD. TATA motors dealer last week sent someone forTD with me, who tells me (after we done TD) he don't know driving, he just comes with people for TD, provide info and come back & hand over customer to sales guy. Toyota dealer always have driver & sales guy as pair. If you book TD, they will send this team, driver & sales guy. When you do TD, driver will be either handover keys to you & leave the car or sit next to you, sales guy will give all sales speech only.

conflicting reports. And I seem to believe the version where it says Mittal borrowed the car for a day's use. which puts a question on the all the cars in that dealership. They are selling cars used for joy rides?

Please go through the link posted by Khan75 on this accident

Massive accident in Gurgaon yesterday that claimed the life of an innocent person. Here's a link to the article in today's HT.

Posting pics of a Scorpio Accident recently. It belongs to an online acquaintance from Yahoo groups.
Looks like the vehicle has taken the impact pretty well.

From the looks of it ^^, just enough impact so as not to reach the cabin. Very lucky/responsive IMHO.

The grille on that Scorpio looks intact! That's quite surprising!? It looks so intact, that it almost looks like it has been replaced after the accident!

I mean, you see the bonnet completely ripped off, half the bumper damaged, the fender shredded and one headlight destroyed and you'd expect the grille to be slightly damaged!

Looks like the Scorpio has taken the impact very well! I'm with Prince Pervez on that! :)

Seems like the Scorp rear-ended a truck or something. No damage to the passenger compartment though!

^^ seriously how didn't the grill cave in ? the bonnet looks like it's been shredded and the fender is also torned. But look at the grill, it looks so much in peace.
Hope no one was injured in the accident.

As per the limited information that I have, the Scorp had to ram into a truck coming from the wrong side in order to avoid falling into a ditch to its left. This happened on the NH-7 (location not known). The driver has fractured his thumb and has a bruise on his head. All the passengers are safe.

You forgot to mask the number plate. Out of curiosity, i checked the reg on the BTIS website and find the number is registered to a Bolero 3dr!
