But I have a question. Many times I drive my car with windows rolled up and no blower/ac, still don't feel suffocated. I was under the impression that it isn't airtight enough not to allow ambient air to leak inside. So what is it?

You're right, mainstream cars are not really airtight that way.
It could have been the heat getting to them as well. Locked cars in the bright sun could have their interiors go upwards of 45/50° easily. What an awful way to go.

Take your kids/pets along with you when you get out of the car.

Heat! Not suffocation. Cars are not air tight.

I second this. For motivation you can take a leaf out of Nissim Ezekiel's book

Re: Accidents in India | Pics & Videos

More than the accident itself, it's the sad state of reporting and reaction to the incident that is saddening. Blame it on bigger vehicle and high speed and close the chapter.

Here is an accident that happened closer to our place on an elevated highway. Multiple major channels reported very close to whats being mentioned in this video as well, that its caused due to road problem, multiple accidents are happening and is due to high speed of the car that overturned.

As far as I know, this particular stretch is not at all accident prone, and this accident happened only because of a ill minded person who parked his car on the right lane! The celerio saw that parked car late and panic braked, and the car that followed it, just rammed onto the Celerio and divider and overturned. (He is also to be blamed for not keeping a safe distance)

With the footages available, the car that was parked there should be called out, fined heavily and made to paid for the consequences. Without an attempt to move in these directions, these kind of selfish behaviours will continue to endanger other people's lives.

Re: Accidents in India | Pics & Videos

Had a nasty and unfortunate accident because of bad weather.

A metro roofing sheet came flying on the highway. It hit the Bonnet, the A pillar and both the right doors, the rear quarter panel and the tail light.
It was blackout in an instant followed by two loud crashing sound.

The damage

The second sound was by the car coming from behind. A Scorpio N couldn't apply brakes and he hit my car.

Because the weather was so bad, I couldn't get out of the car and the scorpio driver sped away.
Now the car's at the workshop

It’s so scary!
Could you please tell where did this happen exactly?

And the sad part is that you can sue no one, or can you?

Re: Accidents in India | Pics & Videos

It happened at Khatu Shyam Mandir near Alipur.

By using my non hybrid car for 80km route, claim amount and ncb loss, it will come around 12k from my pocket. No point in chasing a moron who couldn't brake at 40kmph.

You're right, the heat under direct sun is a common (relative to all fatal accidents) cause of death of children and pets, even in cooler western countries. In fact, Teslas even come with a "Dog mode" that displays that the AC is running, and the current temperature in the cabin, on the touchscreen.

Cars aren't airtight enough for no oxygen to get through. But it gets incredibly hot in a car parked in sunshine. 50c or well higher than that. And there's no wind or escape in a locked car with the windows up, unless you know how to unlock the car or break a window (which no 5 year old has the strength to do).

I see many people leaving their pets in their cars under shade/in the evening. Hope they have the foresight to not do so under the sun.

RIP to the poor kids.

Re: Accidents in India | Pics & Videos

My brother's car was hit from behind on dual carriage way in stop and go traffic, causing a 3 car vehicle pileup. Due to the impact, my brother's Compass damaged from the front as well.
As you can see from the footage, The guy behind was browsing his phone oblivion to the fact that the traffic is not moving anymore and the phone slipped out from his hand from the impact of the accident.

He stopped for 40-45 seconds then sped away, making it a hit and run. Thus, the number plate is there in the title of the video.

You mentioned that a metro sheeting came undone and crashed into your vehicle. While you've been lucky to escape unhurt, a 2 wheeler would have fared much worse. Would urge you to write to the metro authorities - at least they are informed of this risk (info@dmrc.org).

Look at the damage to the A pillar. It surely would have been fatal and the sheet didn't come from a Metro station but the sheet itself is called "metro sheet".

Re: Accidents in India | Pics & Videos

A very minor accident for my Verna.

Luckily the speeds were very low.

There were a lot of cars parked in front and I had to stop. But the scooter behind me was unable to.

Something fell into the eyes of the scooterist and he was completely distracted by it.

A very important reason why wearing a helmet with adequate eye protection is so important.

My car bumper popped out. I tapped it back into its place.
The plastic fairing of the scooter was shattered and left very faint scratches on my car's rear bumper.

The scooterist was very apologetic and there was really nothing else to do about it.
