The Thar accident is a classic case of "I have a bigger vehicle and people should get out of my way" attitude. Even in reviews of these cars on respectable platforms, you often read statements talking about how the car has such commanding presence that others move out of your way. Extremely irritating and unsafe way of thinking.

Unless you're driving an emergency vehicle with your sirens on, get in line like everyone else.

Can't help thinking that a bit of defensive driving by the Swift driver could have avoided him getting involved in the accident.

I would take sides with everyone putting the blame on the rash and negligent Thar driver who must have surely seen a Bollywood film getting deeply inspired, where stunt drivers for film heroes do all such road theatrics and daredevily to chase villians, breaking not only traffic rules but every rule on the earth.

The road is wet, slippery and cars are moving. Without giving any warning to other drivers for a decent overtake, the Thar driver transgresses to his right disregarding the "no overtaking" white line. The Swift driver has perhaps saved himself from a life threatening accident with not one, but two solid steely Mahindras.

The Bolero pickup driver could have been an autorickshaw driver earlier, being very habituated to suddenly take U or L turns and keep his vehicle transverse to the road, come what may.

Absolutely. Couldn't agree more. The two highways I drive most on are Bangalore to Kottayam and Gauhati to Shillong. No matter which routes I take for the former, there always seem to be some impatient drivers who just can't accept that speed they proceed depends on the road, weather , topography of the road and what not. They will cross yellow lines, overtake via shoulder of the road, blind overtakes even in ghats...

Comparatively drivers of North East seems to be more patient, at least once you leave city limits.

The Thar driver probably wanted to save a couple of minutes stuck behind slower traffic, he sure lost much more in the bargain.

The Seltos reversing into a pole. Was it an IVT version? That transmission works equally smoothly in both directions!

It's impossible as you say to do it in 5 hours. CBD to CBD will take 6 to 6.5 hours at the least. My timing looks something like this : 3 hours to Ranipet from Whitefield. 30 to 45 minutes to Kanchipuram depending on time of the day. 45 minutes to Sriperumbudur. 1.25 to 1.5 hours to Meenambakkam via Vandalur. One break of 45 minutes with kids et al.

Wow! This boils my blood to no extent. You were extremely lucky because unlike most, you were enjoying the ride. And this probably saved you from the humiliating government high handedness. I myself faced something like this when I was young and just started to drive. The Chief Justice India convoy was en route to my hometown Coimbatore. But the intersection from across my home was not manned by police and hence I was not stopped. I crossed the road and was driving casually when the CJI convoy at full blast forced me to move aside. Later the police who did not stop me initially had the gall to blame and fine me with a 400 rupee fine(with receipt). With the recent rains, there seems to be a sudden increase in the number of accidents in Kerala.

People lacking understanding of the driving dynamics in wet roads.

Horrible bad luck for the Duster. But i think the SUV saved the bus from toppling over. The angle it was drifting in, the bus was surely bound to roll over.

Minor correction.Not a duster, but terrano.

But isn't the SUV the culprit in first place?

Don't you think the bus driver applied brake seeing the car cutting across his lane and to avoid hitting it, and that caused the bus to drift.

Sorry, got to disagree with you. It's quite easy to watch this in the video and analyze postmortem what could have been done better. But when you are on the road, these things happen in blink of an eye it's very difficult to make split second decisions especially when you are in your lane, driving sanely and you have a clean view of your lane ahead of you. The fault is 100% on the Thar driver who was overtaking rashly while approaching a blind curve. Such drivers should have their license revoked immediately.

Received on WA about a fatal fire accident on Bangalore - Mysore Highway. No further details.

With recent installation of the cams, maddening speed has decreased but there is a lot more job to do. Then number of stories people have to tell about private bus related accidents underlines how prevalent it is.

The Terrano entered the curve with half of it in the wrong lane, possibly because of that genius pedestrian walking on the road even though there was enough space on his right. He was also going too fast for the conditions. The bus driver tried to do right thing but of course these buses are hardly cutting edge, as they don't even have ABS. He too could've been a tad slower given the conditions but not as much as the car driver should've been.

But it does seem that the Terrano managed to get the situation under control in the end, just that the chain reaction of his previous actions went against him.

Agree with you but not just private busses, our own elephant (KSRTC) is no better.
