Common sense has gone to the dogs. What's wrong with people getting close to a possible blast scene? Everyone was busy filming and no bugger thought about a fire extinguisher? Crazy.

With so many EVs being sold in India, it's high time a very stringent regulation is brought about and a manufacturer's battery pack randomly picked up from assembly line must pass the tests before being launched in a vehicle.

Yes, this was an avoidable tragedy. If he were driving say below 80kmph, he would have been able to stop or swerve safely.

People are talking in Telugu, so it must be AP or Telangana.

PS: From the comments I could gather that it happened in Hyderabad.
Off topic, wait till the manufacturer claims it to be the rocket mode, rocket boost power just a tap away.

Hopefully nothing like this happens to the Ola electric scooter.

No, I did not experience any near misses earlier even under wet conditions. It was a sunny morning and tiles were dry.

Here is the theory of my wife. During her morning walk, she occasionally spots pigeon droppings as pigeons sit on drain pipes above.

Maybe I took the turn when the front wheel was right on top of a slippery thing and front wheel skidded. I also came to know that another resident fell down at the same spot under similar circumstances.

re: Accidents in India | Pics & Videos

Because of the poor safety standard in no name electric scooters. Also poor wiring standards in many buildings. It's best if theses EVs have lifep04 battery since they don't catch fire, if there is a short circuit, that can still make the EV catch fire just like your ICE car, but the battery chemistry itself will not explode or catch fire.

Li-ion and LiPo based batteries will catch fire/explode due to a short circuit, thermal runaway or if the pack is physically damaged or punctured.

Not only are lifepo4 batteries cheaper, but they also have longer life. Only drawback is for the same size of battery their kWh capacity is 40% less compared to Li-ion/Li-Po.

I’m on the way to Trivandrum and just passed through this Accident at Trichy. I did not witness it but just drove beside the car. Looks like a GLE to me and the accident looks bad. Could see a couple of bikes, a police patrol vehicle and many people around. Unfortunately, don’t know how the accident occurred and if anyone’s injured.

Going by the size and the alloy wheel design, it looks like the new GLS.

Did not know Epluto sells flowerpot crackers.

Jokes apart, I am not comfortable buying any electric rolling barbeque chairs until maturity of all-round EV technology.

Also relieved no one was harmed, albeit hard stupidity on display.

I can see a lack of awareness on two things - one, people are casually taking a video from close quarters without doing anything to help; which brings me to the second point: Lithium battery fires can be safely put out only by cooling the battery below the ignition temperature of Lithium which is around 500C. So, the best approach would've been to dump a lot of water to ensure that the battery pack is cooled adequately and quick enough to prevent a reignition.

Had read a news report about a Texas fire department pumping over a 100k litres of water over 4 hours to put out a Tesla fire that took two lives.

But how many people in given proximity would have a fire extinguisher meant for electric fires ?

May be commercial buildings, but they would have slightly larger ones. Will they use a unit for a fire that happens in public space ? (If I am correct, Once used, it needs a full refill)

Oh my bad! Indeed. Even the remaining part of the grille clearly shows that. Thanks for correcting it.

On the basis of the damages to this car, this vehicle seems to have been involved in a roll-over accident (or maybe a heavy object/truck tipped over on it partially). Not sure how the intelligence if the owner comes into play here. IMHO, this car belongs in the "Accidents in India" thread.

Our MVA is a toothless snake. I hate this stunt gang, the honda dio zapping zoom gang. The only thing that teaches them is good thrashing or confiscating their vehicle.

Petty MVA fines, they will come back to the same road in 2 days.

Sometimes my blood boils seeing the way they drive on the public road putting innocents life in danger.. anything happens, its irreversible.

Bike lovers, pls don't support them, you're not one of them

AFAIK, Lithium ion battery fires need a common ClassB fire extinguisher only. So it's not really rare.
