Out of the four occupants, the driver (actress Yashika Anand) survived with severe injuries and is currently in the hospital along with 2 other occupants, while one co-passenger died on the spot.

It is imperative that when a car topples it is bound to undergo outer damage of high severity all around. But what needs to be checked is the circumstances leading to the injury of occupants inside. For example whether they were wearing seat belts, even at the rear as NCAP assumes the same while making their tests.

For all those things we have to wait for the investigation to be revealed before concluding on a car's safety.

I mean, just by looking at available pictures, I can see that the car has held up quite well. The passenger shell is intact. Deformation beyond the C-pillar is expected in roll overs and does not harm any occupants in a 5 seater as all passengers are contained within the first 3 pillars. We do not know the speeds involved and/or if the occupants had belted up. If anything, the pictures say that the Harrier is quite safe in the event of a roll-over.

There should be a law, especially for enlightened youtubers and "influencers", which says if you are going to speak of car safety, you must also speak of crumple zones, their meaning and why the exist.

I understand this accident involved some actress lady and her friend and at least one of them is in hospital. I wish them speedy recovery.

Personally, I am disappointed that TATA has not sent the Harrier/Safari for the GNCAP test. But at the end of the day they are a profit driven business and they have put in the effort to get the 5 star crash test rating simply because it's good business (It has sadly become a USP after all) not because they care for the safety of Indians.

However, would request the mods to delete this thread. There is no point in questioning the safety rating of any vehicle (even a Maruti) by looking at accident pics.

Without any form of standardization, all this is just conjecture and anecdotal evidence.

Looks like the car had multiple rollovers ( don't know the accident circumstances, but high speed is for sure, cannot easily flip a car with stability control as standard equipment). Please only look at the biw structural parts like the a b and c pillar and they have withstood the impact really well and passenger zone is not crushed. Bonnet , fender ,bumper and doors ( only come in for side impact) are non strucutal components and donot in any way contribute to strucutal integrity of the main structure.

I have worked in vehicle crash simulation . Also whatever solid or safety rated a car is (Maruti or Mercedes) you cannot expect to do silly crazy speeds ,have an impact and walk away without a scratch. The victims should be lucky they were in this vehicle and lived to tell the tale. Personally this reinforces my view that Tata makes solid and safe cars. How the driver handles it and what he does with it should not be the cars fault.

I believe This is a topic for the accidents thread.

Mods- please do the needful.

Hearing news about 9 fatalities in Kinnaur - HP when their vehicle got hit by landslide.

As someone who loves driving in hills, recent news about landslides (& casualties) have me worried. One can possibly avoid venturing out during monsoons.
Not sure it's safer during other seasons (before & after monsoon). Will be great if some experts on the forum can pitch in.

Yeah got the same video as a whatsapp forward. Spellbound.

Apparently one of the cars was reduced as below. It has a fake teambhp sticker as well!

Is it safer? Yes. So there is no risk? No, there is always a risk of landslides while traveling in the Himalayas. But not enough to completely rule out traveling here. FYI a lot more people die or get seriously injured each year on hilly roads due to rash driving than due to landslides. Its just that these visuals make for interesting news stories. But you should definitely avoid traveling here during the monsoon season.

As per initial Media Reports Yaashika has been at the wheels. DUI suspected. This would be the 2nd instance she has been in a nasty late night accident. If only her license was cancelled as per law in the first instance maybe this one might not have happened. Fame and celebrity status at young age can sadly be dangerous if it gets to your head :unhappy

Absolutely gutting to see the Harrier smashed up like this. Must have been an extremely dangerous and fast manoeuvre to take such a nasty hit on the passenger side hitting the road divider in a 2+2 lane road :Frustrati

In the Tamil daily that we subscribe to at home, it's been reported that the Harrier was being driven by the actress at a very high speed and it rolled over as many as 50 times after striking the median. The actress' friend who was also killed was half outside the open sunroof before the incident occurred and she was flung out of the car instantly upon impact.

Interestingly, the police had refrained from commenting if alcohol was involved; and yet the Tamil daily has confirmed the same. Both of the deceased were inebriated, if they are to be believed.

Well it should also start a conversation on why a pedestrian has to walk almost in the middle of a road filled with fast moving traffic? Where is our town planning? Where is our government or municipal corporations? If we had a proper pedestrian walkways, these accidents could be avoided in first place.

Police would have conveniently delayed the necessary blood test to rule out any DUI. :Frustrati

Now Media is quoting Police that there was no DUI just spirited driving! Having been inside a Harrier I am flabbergasted how someone in their sane mind can total it like crushing some papad:eek: The Stretch between Mahabs and Chennai though 4 laned is extremely difficult for hyper riding and is a veritable obstacle course with or without traffic. There are speed guns and CCTV cameras at regular intervals. With all these evidence I find it incredulous that the Authorities are not naming and shaming culprits involved for their exact atrocities. Thank God there were no casualties of innocent road user(s) like the delivery boy in the previous "accident" involving the same Actor.
