So I think we can take it as a given that animals will never step back but only step forward.

The above assumption applies to mainly cattle (cows, buffaloes etc) Once they start in a direction, they will continue without much changes and it makes them predictable and rekatively safer. Cats too make a quick dash if they decide to cross the road in one direction and as fast as they can.

The exception is dog. Dogs will always have second thoughts midway and will often change their minds and step backwards. Very unpredictable.

Saw this on Hassan-Bengaluru highway near Solur yesterday. The Celerio might not have noticed the Dzire slow down for a serial hump that was a few feet away from this spot.

Whoa ! That person is insanely lucky. That accident looked really bad and yet that person got up and walked away !

I wonder how one handles the situations when squirrels! One moment they want to cross the road and suddenly they forgets something, sitting almost in the line of travel.

When you try to dodge them, they just can get any more crazy. I always feel like they are planning something while working with their scissors(teeth).

In one word - don't.

Don't try some manoeuvre that would put you, your passengers or other road users in danger trying to save a squirrel.

Just came across this crazy accident. The Polo literally ripped the tractor into 2 halves! Glad everyone involved came out alive.

Gruesome accident in Indore that snuffed out 6 young lives. Four of them being the only child in the family.
Drunk driving + insane speeds = instant disaster.

Really Unfortunate! Which car was it? No airbags?

A decade old design? YES

Too old to command a premium? PROBABLY

Does not give you all the unnecessary gizmos? YES

Not the favorite among mango people (Aam Janta)? SURE

But...

Still remains one of the safest cars on sale - VW POLO clap:

This is not a CCTV footage and as mentioned in the comments, it seems weird somebody would record a tractor entering a highway, unless it is a regular spot for accidents !

The car looks like a Suzuki Swift & One can also see that the impact pushed the heavy stationary vehicle which looks like a tanker. Accidents at such insane speeds can be fatal, not to mention 6 passengers in small hatch.

this one more a function of the (over)load in the trailer. With such overloading, the weak-point in a tractor is where the engine section is joined to the transmission. A tractor has a very basic construction - engine+transmission, and wheels, unlike other vehicles we see around us (LoF /monocoque).

Totally off topic but a fun geeky fact -- The Polo back in 1986 was the first successful full-car frontal crash simulation ever performed!!! The simulation was a collision against a concrete barrier at 50 Km/h!

The software used was developed by ESI called Pam-Crash https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ESI_Group

Another tractor vs car accident.
Lucky escape for the tractor driver.

Tractors are some of the most irresponsibly driven vehicles on the Indian roads / highways - based on many personal near misses.

They have absolutely no regard for others, no reflectors, no brake lights, extremely slow and extremely dangerous when towing overloaded trolleys.

Got this news and video today. Scary, to say the least. Highlights two most common issues of accidents:
1. Speed unsuitable for respective size of the road
2. Lane merging / changing without first checking for traffic
