All three cars appear to be small hatchbacks. What surprises me is how 24 people managed to fit in three Alto-sized cars?

I think the news says 14 as the count including 4 children so i wont be surprised since one of the cars was an Omni, by default its an eight seater and if you carry children on lap you can easily pack in 10 people

Thankfully the car on the Thrissur Kochi was not too fast and could stop after crossing over to the opposite lane (a very dangerous situation).

One common trend on our highways is drivers tend to maintain the same speed while passing through road intersections and crossings, this is very risky.

On Indian highways, your speed has to be reduced considerably while passing through small towns/villages and intersections cutting across the highway.

The assumption always should be that anyone can jump across at anytime without warning and the speed should be adjusted/slowed to the extent that would enable the driver to stop safely.

Horrific Accident on Hyderabad - Nagarjuna Sagar Highway. Piaggio three wheeler with 19 women hit the container truck

All the women were going back to their homes after working in the near by paddy fields. Unfortunate that 9 lives are lost and rest will bear a lifelong misery.

Youtube footage of the accident:

Not sure who is at fault, but I sense that three wheeler driver could not do a quick maneuver and hit the truck. Local newpapers have mentioned that the truck driver is at fault. (link)

Its a common scene in the telugu states to see people in excess of 20 people being stuffed into the Piaggio three wheelers

If one looks closely, don't you see the three wheeler moving into the path of the truck at the last moment. It seems that, for some reason, the autorikshaw moved right in the few seconds before the collision.

The truck was attempting an over take that Tata Ace. Yes, the auto was coasting towards the middle, probably in an attempt to scare off and push the truck back to its lane. But with what? With an heavily loaded three wheeler?

The Tata Ace toppled too. Hope no casualities from that.

Oh man, that's a sickening video :( Common sense dictates when a humongous moving object hurtles towards you, you move away from it.

But then common sense also dictates you don't let 19 (or is it 9) people in an autorickshaw!

Yes looks like it but we also need to see where the truck was before that. There is a possibility the truck tried going to extreme right since there is space before returning to left. Also there is a chance the auto driver assumed the truck was turning in the Pump/Dhaba.

Whatever it may be the truck is definitely at fault for being on wrong side of the road. The Auto was overloaded but we have to expect that in rural India.

Yes. And it also looks as if the truck didn't have its headlights switched on. The three wheeler driver was probably blinded by the lights of the Dost in front of the truck and did not notice the truck in the dark.

Edit : Looking at the video again, maybe the truck's headlights were on. The front of auto does light up moments before the crash.

Its a two lane state high-way and in all possibility this might be an intersection create by locals and auto driver might have thought that the truck might take left and he must have moved to right (Not sure what the police will analyze and what will they file in the FIR)

All the causalities are from the auto as per the report.

Apparently the truck driver is arrested.

re: Accidents in India | Pics & Videos

The auto driver was gradually slowing down and when he drifted left, he was pretty slow. Did he intend to turn right and misjudged the speed of the truck? Or is it that he saw the truck approaching but couldn't determine where the truck wanted to go?

WOW, build quality of Mercedes!

I saw the video in slow motion, I still fail to understand who hit whom here, both were in good speeds, I think the mercedes benz hit the rear tyre of tipper lorry, making it unstable and fall side ways. The pile of mud and momentum from roll overs helped tipper lorry to come back to normal position.

Can someone help me understand how this can happen to a safe car like ecosport? Is there any mistake by ecosport driver that made the car topple? like turning off some security feature?
What is so wrong with our two wheeler drivers that they don’t care about their own lives let alone other lives on the road? The two incidents in the video are egregious behaviour from the riders.
