A clear case of murder, what guts he should have had to do such things in broad daylight. The auto driver should be hanged to death  Oh I am sorry, knowing the reality, I expect a lot.

Along with wishing stringent action againts the auto driver, I would like to condemn the indifference shown by the individual on motorcycle who parked and walked away.

There was a ghastly accident near Hubli. 20 ladies who were school buddies (from Davanagere) were travelling to Goa and their mini Bus hit a tipper early morning. 11 of them died on the spot. Very cruel and the mini Bus is mangled piece of metal. Dont want to share the sad photos. Have the group photo on the bus just before they started and the ones after accident.

Real sad and really discourage people from travelling at night.

That is a very dangerous 30 kms bypass between Hubli-Dharwad. With lot of smaller vehicles trying to overtake slow moving trucks, accidents are always waiting to happen here.

Last month a KSTRC bus, though he had no gap to overtake safely, overtook a truck and came directly into my lane forcing me to swerve onto the shoulder. Despite being the stretch which collects the highest toll between Bengaluru and Dharwad, it still continues to be a single lane road. As soon one crosses the Gabbur toll, it is better to stick to the lane and overtake only when there is a clear line of sight.

They were on a re-union kind of get together trip to Goa. They were from 1989 (10th standard) batch from St Paul's Convent School, Davangere. My sister had also studied there, but she is from 1988 batch. Some doctors were also there in the bus it seems.

News report mentioned that accident happened at around 7:30 am.

The accident happened when a tempo traveller vehicle and lorry collided with each other at Ittigatti in the outskirts of Dharwad city at around 7.30 am. The tempo traveller was bound from Davanagere to Goa while the lorry was coming from Belagavi. Initially nine were killed, and four more succumbed at Karnataka Institute of Medical Sciences Hospital at Hubballi without responding to treatment later.

As per information available, 12 out of 13 deceased persons were ladies, all of them childhood friends. The other was the tempo traveller's driver. All of them were of Davanagere origin. They were past students of St Paul's Convent school, Davanagere, and had met at a programme recently held at the school. The friends, who had met after a gap of several years, had planned a trip together to Panaji and had left Davanagere at 3 am. A tipper truck carrying sand hit the tempo traveller hard, resulting in the death of 12 out of 16 women in the vehicle. The condition of others is also serious and they are oscillating between life and death, reports said.
Really tragic. RIP the departed souls.

I had driven on this stretch number of times and seen numerous reckless overtaking. They charge hefty toll for this single carriageway and should have made it safer.

Apart from the heinous action of driver, the apathy shown by that rider is also surprising, he didn't bother to even look at and old guy lying on the road.

Some more sad news.

The auto seems to have turned around to come back and run over that man again.

Another accident of the Harrier. This time rear ended by the old gen Creta.

Maybe because he thought it was a drunk guy, and we have seen such stuff commonly. He comes into scene only after the auto had run over once and left, and second time he has walked off when the auto guys runs him over again.

Another piece of sobering news coming from Jaisalmer (Rajasthan) which is considered Mecca for the bikers. Richard Srinivasan famous for cross country rides passed away after crashing into a camel. May his soul RIP.

I don't have all details of the incident, so kind of unfair to comment on the reasons behind this.

Arrow straight roads (around Jaisalmer) away from any civilization look very inviting. But such incidents are a grim reminder of what all can go wrong.

There is a seperate thread on this topic here.

A very sad news indeed, especially when you bid adieu to this world through the very platform that you are known for.

Finally there is some hope, if what this news article from today's paper is to be believed :

There is a mention of 4 laning of the deadly bypass.

Source : Deccan Herald

This Tata LPT 1613 truck broke its front forged axle beam on University Road Pune today morning - luckily it was slow near the speedbreaker and skid to the side of the road. The speedbreaker jerk may have led to this axle beam failure.

The truck did not look overloaded, but the red circled part is a catastrophic failure for a rigid beam. The driver was standing by the road calling on his cellphone for help.
