Doh! My ignorance there. Thanks.

But it is bad news. That mechanical lock is as important as mechanical fallback for power steering. Hope you're not going to tell me next that that essential safety mechanism is being cost cut

I'm absolutely against under-age driving, and the family culture that makes it possible. In fact, my dad made me wait one year longer than the UK age limit before he started giving me lessons in the family car. This pissed me off greatly at the time, but he was absolutely firm about it.

In other ways, though, he had been teaching me how to drive, by example and explanation, all my life. If I had somehow got behind the wheels of a car earlier in my teens, I would probably have suffered some mishap through lack of hands-on training, but I would never have wilfully driven over speed and dangerously. It's not impossible to be a kid, even a touch wild, and also have some sense of sanity and responsibility. I remember being driven by schoolfriends who had got younger access to cars: no, they did not stick within speed limits. But they had their own limits. They never threw away all common sense. And they had some common sense, even in their teens.

Ideally every car door should have a manual mechanical override that would enable to door to be opened should the electric system fail.

Unfortunately, there are many cars in our market whose locking mechanism are electrically powered and don't have a manual/mechanical override. (Eg: Palio had them, there was a mechanical link between the lock and the lever. Sure it would autolock, but it could always be 'mechanically' unlocked from inside).

which are these cars ? My understanding is this - the relay that " electrically locks" the car is a 'supplementary 2nd stage' linkage that supersedes the mechanical linkage from the outer handle. However, the inside lever's mechanical linkage is the master control that can override the 2nd stage and 1st stage (either for locking or unlocking) in two steps. Door locks have been designed like this for years and years together, hence I am not sure which car models you are talking about. Please correct me if my understanding is wrong.

An Audi car runs over a 1.5 year old kid.

The article is in Gujarati language, but video is there. I feel the Audi driver just could not spot the kid in front of his car and has purely driven over him accidentally. This incident is from Rajkot.

It was really impossible for the driver to spot the child unless he would have seen him running in front of the car and carefully watched if the child has passed or not as for the parents they are fully responsible for what happened with the child as the child was in their sight and they should have called him back from the road.

One of my relative was involved in a freak incident yesterday. He was driving his Hyundai Venue and was in the RH lane as he was overtaking some vehicle and another car was tailgating him from behind.

From the opposite lane [the other direction], a Chevrolet Beat's rear wheel came off and hit his Venue.

The damage can be seen from pictures and luckily there were no damages to engine / radiator and the car could be driven to an ASC.

Oh man. The things you have to watch out for while driving. Can't imagine how my brain would process when i see a runaway tyre bouncing it's way to me like some nintendo video game.

Thank god your relative is ok and caught the tyre at a good spot. A bad bounce and brrr.

Oh thats terrible, hope your relative and other car occupants are safe. This why we need proper road divider with good height on highways to avoid such mishaps. What happend to Beat?

That's a very scary accident, such types are generally seen on YouTube. Glad everyone is safe.

3 people dead and 1 person critical due to an accident in Kuthiran. A truck "lost control" and hit 6 vehicles. While the accident was unfortunate, the death toll could easily have been much more (if more two-wheelers were involved).
