Somehow the picture of the bus seems to be from a different source. Atleast the bus picture looks like a screenshot from a facebook post, whereas the MG hector pictures seems to be direct from camera. So the MG Hector colliding with another vehicle other than this bus cannot be ruled out

All the pictures are from same facebook post. The picture of the bus is a screenshot while others are downloaded. There was one more picture which was quiet disturbing as it showed the driver in the car. I do not know any further details about the accident. Expecting someone who knows about it shows up.

I am surprised to see that nobody commented on this aspect.
No, not fragile. However, they will crack or break on high impact rather than bend like steel wheels due to lower durability.

Might be lot of comments already done on this aspect here:
https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/tyre-...-repaired.html (Are alloy wheels prone to damage & can't be repaired?)
That's why.

Both the vehicles are Gujarat registered. In the second last picture, you can see remains of the Hector in the background. Also, there's more damage to the bus than what the earlier set of pictures suggest.

Even the safest of cars won't stand a chance in frontal collision with a bus/truck. MG Hector driver was dead on the spot.

The MG Hector seems to have been involved in a minimal frontal overlap crash at an angle, wherein bulk of impact seems to be concentrated on the fender and A-pillar. Most vehicles will struggle to maintain structural integrity in such a scenario. For more information on impact of minimal front overlap crashes, you can refer to this link.

With no crash test ratings available for the MG Hector and seeing the survival passenger cage being ripped apart in this manner, the structural integrity of this vehicle remains questionable. Even the airbags would be ineffective if the passenger cage disintegrated and opened up like that.

While foreign OEMs like Renault, Suzuki, Datsun to name a few continue to sell structurally weak cars in our market to make a quick buck, its heartening to note that Indian OEMs like Tata and Mahindra have taken the lead in safety and leveraged build technology from their acquisitions, Jaguar and Sanyong respectively to produce 4 and 5 star crash rated cars for our Indian market .

PC https://www.thehindu.com/news/nation...le31106017.ece

"In the wake of the state government declaring holidays for colleges and schools till March 31 to prevent spread of Covid-19, the eight students decided to visit Ooty."

This plan has 'stupid' written all over it from get go. Terribly selfish as well. Just because these paramedical college students are healthy 20 year olds, they shouldn't have taken this risk to spread the infection to the elderly and immunocompromised in the community.

"They hired an SUV and started from Salem in the early hours of Thursday (19/3/2020). When they reached near Avinashi, the driver lost control of the SUV. The vehicle rammed the rear side of a cement-laden truck moving in front of it."

Not sure if the driver had rested well the previous night as they started from Salem at 3am as per Tamil newspapers. The driver of Tavera and 4 out of 7 students died on the spot while 3 other students are admitted in Coimbatore medical college hospital with severe injuries. RIP.
Seems a survivable accident had they all wore seat belts.

Stay indoors. Precautionary leave for colleges and schools does not mean vacation. Let's fight out COVID-19 through Social distancing, cooperating with the government.

With the lockdown in place, these three weeks will hopefully see the least amount of accidents and entries on this thread.

Stay home. Stay safe.

I too wish that this thread remains silent for the next 3 weeks.
We have had enough of these incidents and need a break after all.
Glad to see that this thread does not appear in the first page of the "new posts".

No, it looks like there are still some morons on the road who seem to be 'enjoying' the empty roads and defying the orders, by not wearing helmets, riding in triples, what not. So this thread might find some more entrants.

Well, there's no cure for AIDS and stupidity and I'm not sure about the first one.

Exactly my thoughts. You have put it across very succinctly. I'm certain that the lockdown will help prevent a lot of tears rolling down.

Indeed. While their contribution to population control is appreciated, this additional piece of stupidity is unfortunate.

The truck driver absconded following the accident. Avinashi police registered a case and efforts to nab the truck driver are under way.
That despite an earlier comment from the police clearly absolving the trucker of blame. I don't think the reporter knows the meaning of the word nab.

Despite we being quite optimistic during the home curfew, here is news of a two wheeler colliding head-on with a tourist bus in Thanjavur dist, (T.N.), killing two and injuring ten persons. The biker who died was under the influence of alcohol, the report says:-
