+1. But whatever be the case, the car has (surprisingly) fared better than what I had expected from a Maruti after watching the crash video.

Accident near Nilgris Sreekaryam Trivandrum early morning today. Endy driver slept off apparently.

Why not these people stop somewhere and take rest instead of risking their life and the occupants life?. What stops them from doing so?. Lord YamaRaj?. People who doze off when driving should be tried under attempt to murder case.

Felt sorry for the truck driver...

And all the road users!!

Aside: I wish people would get out of the vertical-slot movie habit!

Turning the phone on its side would give a much better view.

Some observations about this accident.
1. It is still unclear why the driver veered to the right - was it swerving to avoid hitting something or was it a distraction or panic moment that caused the car to go that way? The driver certainly seems to realise that she was headed for the footpath and tried straightening out but ended up hitting the bus.
2. Both airbags seem to have deployed - probably life-saving for the driver (assuming she recovered from the serious injuries). How old was the child? The passenger side airbag seems to have deployed as well.
3. I was surprised about the amount of car that went under the front of the bus. A couple of years ago, we were rearended and our Indica Cab got pushed into the back of a SETC bus and it went in all the way to the windshield slowly! Very scary!!

On the same page on Facebook, there is another CCTV accident of a head on collision of a car with bus (?in Kerala). The CCTV date says 26th June. Wonder what happened to the car passengers.

Crumple zones seem to have done a good job.
If that hood didn't stop the bus, bus would have ended up in the rear seat of the car.
Pillars too took the brunt and kept the passenger shell in the best possible shape, given the circumstances.

Not exactly an accident, but in the Malad subway in Mumbai two occupants of a Mahindra Scorpio get trapped and die as flooding rain water enters the engine bay, immobilises the electronic door and power window mechanism and the result is a tragedy.

The Scorpio has its heavy tools fastened under the front passenger's seat. The best way out for them was to get hold of the wheel spanner, break the window glass, smoothen the sharp edges and exit to save themselves. But ideal solutions are easier said than done. They must have been panicked and at such times presence of mind or common sense seldom come alive. The incident is very tragic as the lives could have been surely saved.

More than panic, I feel people in such situations hope and believe that they will surely get out with some effort and keep trying to open the doors only. They do not want to damage their own car by breaking the glass which has to be repaired later incurring a cost and keep trying other ways with the hope that they will surely make it. Little do they realize that their life is more valuable than the cost of the glass repair.

Thanks to the CCTV, the real culprit, the KSRTC driver is caught.
The car owners are themselves to blame here for parking the car at a curve. The police should take action against the car passengers for the lynching attempt, and make sure the lorry driver is compensated properly.

But none of these things will ever happen, in India the bigger vehicle kills!

I am reminded of the fact that Railways were forced to pay compensation to the families of dead after they were hit by a train, when they were loitering around on the railway line. Our legal system needs to be updated to punish irresponsible pedestrians and cyclists too.

A bus, with most of its passengers as school children, fell into a gorge in Himachal Pradesh's Shimla district, killing at least four people, including three students, and injuring as many on Monday, an official said.

The accident took place near Khalini village in the district.

The driver of the Himachal Pradesh Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) bus died on the spot and three students succumbed to injuries when they were being taken to a hospital, the official said.

He said an operation is underway to rescue the passengers, most of whom are school children.

The bus conductor and three students were injured in the accident and they have been taken to the hospital, the official said.

There is a huge parking problem in Shimla now a days because of excessive tourists and way too many cars.

The BRTS in Hubli has many flaws. They have closed entire junctions on the road. So, the bikers and cyclist often travel on the wrong side of the road to avoid taking a longer u turn. This is dangerous and the police don't even bother.

Speaking of u-turns, any car taking a u-turn at junctions should now be worried about 3 different lanes, buses will be plying in the middle roads, cars attempting u turn will not be able to see the buses due to the fencing. I have seen a number of crashes happening because of this.

Another issue, once night sets in, these lanes will be not be monitored, so bikes, cars, and even private buses start using the middle lane, causing all sorts of accidents by speeding at junctions.

They should consider building underpasses for these buses to cross junctions, otherwise many more accidents will happen.

Whatever else the biker might be doing wrong, he doesn't even stop to look to his left.

I hope he is still alive --- for the sake of the poor bus driver.

The two bikers are not only alive, they were seen damaging the bus, breaking its glasses while the police did nothing to stop them. The videos of them going on a rampage and damaging the bus was doing the rounds on whatsapp.

Both accidents happened in Tamilnadu.
