Three persons, including a child, were killed and 15 injured after a Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation bus hit passengers crossing the Krishnagiri-Hosur highway early on Monday.

The front wheel of a Krishnagiri-bound STC bus from Hosur burst as it was crossing Shoolagiri around 4.30 a.m. The bus came to a halt and the passengers got off it and were crossing the highway. Another STC bus that was speeding on the highway braked to a halt on seeing the first vehicle. A truck that was closely following the second bus crashed into the vehicle which rammed the passengers crossing the road.
As per the report all 3 deceased were from the same family.

I'm also appalled by the bystander who was trying to 'help' the severely injured rider by agressively pulling his hands (or legs) to lift him. .

Though not the right reaction, its human tendency to move victims away from accident site and I had always seen people trying to lift the victims lying on the ground.

Another reason could be : Its Kerala summer noon and nobody knows how long will the paramedics take to arrive. Chances are that the victim will be property cooked, if not removed from the hot road, into a shade.

11 people have died in an accident at Chouparan in Jharkhand. A semi sleeper bus rammed into an iron rod laden truck from behind at night. The truck had suffered some mechanical failure and was stopped in left lane on the road. It was a recepie for disaster. If you look at the snaps, the half of left side is ripped open. :Shockked:

Apparently the bus had suffered brake failure which could be true as this road is after a slope.

The article says that the truck was moving slowly. There's no mention of mechanical failure. The bus driver was very fast and couldn't slow down due to slope and hence rammed into the truck from behind.

To begin with, the car driver has no fault for this accident from legal point of view. Truck driver overtaking on solid white line and worse, didn’t get back to his lane on time. The car driver didn’t even cross the line by a cm to the other side. It’s an open and shut case in terms of legality of who is responsible for this accident.

Technically and legally yes, the Truck is at fault. But notice that a few seconds before the truck another truck passes moving slightly to the left to give way for the manuver, that is what you me or most others highway users will do. Once in a blue moon one of us also mis-judges an overtake, and others do the same for us. The car was drifting to the right and if it had'nt hit this truck it would have hit the side or rear wheel of the truck behind it.

Again, his intention was very good and didn’t mean malice at all. But he could have moved the victim to shade with care and help of others and taking couple of minutes instead of trying to drag him out of there in seconds. It looked plain mishandling to me because of the ignorance of the type of injury the victim had suffered.

Hence said that the Govt should advertise regularly through TV, newspapers etc. on how to handle accident victims including advising against recent trend of taking gore photos of the victims and publishing it on WhatsApp and social media. The later even should be severely punished.

This accident was in Chennai and is a suburban area and paramedics would have responded pretty soon.

In Western countries, one is generally advised not to move the victim unless they can support themselves but emergency response system there is of course superior. The victim might even sue the person trying to help if the injuries are aggravated because of mishandling.

Well, different articles, different theories. But whatever the case, the bus driver was at fault and has paid the price with his life along with many innocents. The injured people have claimed that the bus driver had informed them about brake failure and then went on to hit the truck.

Agree with what you say but sometimes, you don't have a choice.

On a hot summer noon, in front of Chandragiri fort near Tirupati, I witnessed an accident where a TATA Sumo hit a TVS50 moped from behind and sped away.
The guy was lying on the road and the tar was melting.
I have no option but to lift him and place him under a nearby tree.
He would have definitely died if I left him there.

I called the emergency number and there was no reply is a different story.

More than the fact that barricades are present (most of them thankfully have reflective stickers, some of them even have flashing lights on them) , it is the inconsistency of the gaps between them that is the real killer. Absolute morons are in charge of placing them, it seems. Some of them are two, some are three , and some three ones are placed too close to each other, causing panic braking and subsequent rear ending. People assume that if the previous barricades could be maneuvered smoothly, then the next one can be as well, only to have a last second surprise.

If they adopted a standard of leaving the middle lane free on all the barricades would that even work? One or two fender benders and people then realize "if you see a barricade just slow down, it is better than slamming into one while doing 140".

Two things here. One is that the car driver might have had some ego about using his side of the road. Been there, done that, had the repair bill to show for it. He was on the right side of the road, but, as per Yieldway's analysis following, defensive driving would have seen him sticking closer to the left, and having a much nicer day.

I don’t want to blame him for standing the ground (aka staying in his lane) but he need not have put his life in line to prove that. It could be also that the car driver was momentarily distracted.

And the second thing is the supplementary accident as the larger truck hits the smaller truck. That should never have happened, but it did because of tailgating.

Horrible.

Not technically an accident unless you count mother nature as the other driver.

Some genius drove a car too close to the sea during high tide on a beach in Palghar, so that the car got stuck in the sand and the force of the waves started sucking it into the sea where it later got stuck in slushy sand.

Some villagers later brought over a tractor and towed the car out.

Just happened to see this video from a news link published by Malayala Manorama.

Are people so stupid ? And the dash cam is helpful in all these cases.

We had a close call on NH65 on April 28,2019. A group of buffalos suddenly came rushing out of the road median to cross to the other side of the road, and the Innova in front of us couldn't notice them and hit one of the buffalos. We were extremely lucky as a buffalo running towards our car stopped in time, as does the Brezza behind Innova. No injuries, but Innova's windshied was broken, and right side fender and bonnet got damaged.

Luck favoured because you were maintaining the required and adequate distance from the Innova in front which gave you (and the buffalo:D) sufficient time and space to react positively. Kudos:thumbs up

What needs to be avoided is sticking to the right/fast lane next(and dangerously close) to the divider and use the right lane only for overtaking manoeuvres before returning back to the left lane.
