If I were to earn enough and get my hands on a Porsche 911, I would definitely try to take it as fast as physically possible and allowed by the machine, but around a track. There are others who do not have this instinct and would probably get, and definitely should get a similarly priced S Class.

There is that 3rd group who would spend for an iPhone X but not for the Data Connection, and spend for the car but not spend for the track time for having fun or even maintenance, these are the people you should be watching out for. They are Misers. And they create a problem in every aspect of the society starting from road use, to wearing an underwear into the community pool, you name it.

This miserly group also includes those who would spend on an exotic luxury car, but wouldn't shell out road tax at prevailing rates in Tamil Nadu. They'd rather buy a pathetic little plot in Pondicherry for 5-10 lacs and build a tin shed in it. With proof of "residence" at that address, they would register a luxury car worth minimum of Rs. 50 lacs in Pondicherry .

The prevailing road tax rate for a Mercedes C class in TN is 11.51 lacs and in Pondy it would be 1.25 lacs (https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/...w/61475643.cms)

These misers' sons also often get into accidents here in Chennai, by the way. Chennaites are all too familiar with them. Cops feel scared to stop them usually for their customary traffic violations whilst RTO folks love to stop and penalize them for road-tax evasion once or twice a year.

re: Accidents in India | Pics & Videos

Today, around 12:30AM at Bellandur/Sarjapur Road Signal, right outside Microsoft Bangalore.

Truck is taking a left turn onto the service road from the leftmost lane, this speeding Swift crashed into the truck, around a 45 degree angle.

We helped getting the two passengers out of the car, one of them had some minor bleeding, and the driver had a pretty serious face injury.

None of them were wearing seat belts, and were drunk out of their wits. There were open beer bottles inside the car , half drunk.

Considering the impact of the crash, they are very lucky to get away with minimal injury. Both of the airbags had deployed, but the car did not take the impact very well, twisting and bent badly.

The car is damaged beyond repair, we can see the chassis has been bent uncontrollably around the roof section.

Kudos to you for helping the injured. Just surprised that both airbags deployed even without the driver and passenger being belted.

Anyways good that they managed to make it out of that mangled wreck alive.

Hopefully the truck driver doesn't face the consequences as he is the bigger vehicle here . Looks like his driving was not wrong in any way.

Was the observation that the driver of the car was drunk, notified and recorded? Else there is quite a real possibility that the truck driver will be harassed for this.

Great observation. From this, assume that the airbags in the Swift are triggered by weight sensors underneath the 2 front seats, and is not triggered by the seat belt being clipped on.

The airbags in my erstwhile Nissan Rogue in the US worked like that; nearly heavy grocery bags or children, if seated on the front when the car is stationary, used to confuse the weight sensors; the dashboard would pointedly inform me that the airbag is 'off' for that seat as the load at that time wasn't enough to prime the airbag.

Or, it could be that the two drunk gentlemen had undone their seat belts after the airbags had deployed.

Does that look like the new Swift? New or old Swift - quite creditable that the people survived with minor injuries after such a crash.

It seems the whole car acted as a big crumple zone, either by design or by chance.

I am not sure what happened later. Some of my colleagues had taken the 2 guys to the hospital. There was no police on the scene till then.

It is the new Swift.

Seatbelts were not worn at all. They were not belted up when we pulled them out of the wreck. And judging by the seatbelts pristine condition, I’m pretty sure it was not used. There would have been some glass shards/blood/damage on the belts otherwise.

Really hope so, the truck driver had absolutely no error here.

Frankly, the car’s condition after the crash is not confidence inspiring at all. It has crumpled and twisted really badly.

Or by sheer luck. Quite surprising that they managed to come out alive even without wearing seat belts. It just was not their day to die.

Thanks for clarifying. I had actually overlooked one likelihood; they might have clicked on the seatbelts and then sat on them. This way the airbags would have fired, provided the Swift has airbags triggered only if seat belts are "clicked" on.
