Honda Accord V6.
The driver of the car lost control.
Luckly no one was injured.
Looks like the Innova hit something bigger before finally running/deflecting into the Omni.

The build quality of the underpinnings of the Omni(to suit its load hauling capabilities) is definitely better than the build quality of its passenger cabin. :D Had the innova hit the Omni head on, we should have played a guessing game here. Looks like the innova hit the wheels and the front fender of the omni and hence suffered greater damage.

To me, it appears that the Innova's crumple zone absorbed the impact of collision, reducing the damage to the Omni. If that is correct, then the Omni occupants may have a reason to thank the Innova designers. Any news on the occupants of either vehicle, especially the Omni drive?
A bit off topic, maybe, mods please move this to the appropriate thread if required.
Background - I'm a regular weekend Mumbai Pune traveller and drive down, mostly enjoy my solitude in the car
The policemen on bikes, the drivers of trucks / toe engines commuting in ghat section on bikes and two wheelers in the bypass is a regular sight. Usually, all these folks ride in the service lane and are hardly a bother.
More recently I've observed the (I'm assuming) toll guys with their female folks / children riding pillon riding in similar fashion.
The reason for this post is last Monday, I actually spotted a superbike cutting lanes and driving in the extreme right lane. And then, this Saturday afternoon, as I drove back from Mumbai, spotted a pulsar guy on the extreme right!
There's a PIL filed by a NGO against the MSRDC for allowing to collect toll as the project cost till 2019 has been recovered. Is IRB / the police on Eway waiting for a disaster? Is IRB being lax about rules?

The pictures are of the accident that happened today near Puttur. An MLA was travelling in the Innova. Interestingly, he was supposedly involved in another accident in June 2016 too. Omni's part was then played by a Scorpio. His vehicle appears to be the same Innova even then.
Today's report, found at

Kapu MLA, former minister Vinay Kumar Sorake and two other were injured in a car accident near Puttur town in Dakshina Kannada district on Monday. The accident occurred in Puttur traffic police area limits when MLA and others were travelling towards Puttur by an Innova car. The accident caused the party injuries and have been admitted to a private hospital here in Puttur for treatment.

Udupi, Jun 23: In what could have been a major catastrophe, a speeding sports utility vehicle overturned and hit a car in which former minister and Kaup MLA Vinay Kumar Sorake was travelling at Ambalpady here on Thursday.
he driver and other occupants of the Mhindra Scorpio suffered injuries after it rammed into the road median and overturned on National Highway 66.
The Scorpio also hit the front portion of Mr Sorake’s Innova car before turning turtle and blocking the highway partially. Fortunately, Mr Sorake and his driver escaped unhurt.
However, Mr Sorake’s car bearing registration number KA 65 N 5 damaged in the accident. He had to resume his journey in another car. A case has been registered at Udupi traffic police.

PS: Can't vouch for the authenticity of the reports.
Found these while sifting through old dashcam videos. Happened last month near Kalamassery.
No idea what happened. The auto was not part of the collision; looked like the driver was waiting for someone.
Was driving back today from Bangalore to Chennai around 5 in the evening. After turning left at Krishnagiri and after around thirty Kms saw a big crowd and stopped my car and walked towards the accident spot. The car - a swift had its front almost battered totally and was in a horrible state.
Two ladies and a man were taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital. The sad part was there were two babies probably a few months old and didn't look they came out of this. There were no visible external injuries on the car occupants. The steering wheel had been pushed towards the driver to a big extent. Hope they recover. Can't imagine the speed the car would have been doing. Didn't notice where the car hit after looking around a bit and the roads being quite empty. Maybe lost control or dozed off?!

The full details of this accident is not known yet, but it was a family travelling from Palakkad to Chennai. The parents and one daughter died, but the grandmother and the other daughter are in hospital.

Was this on the Mindspace road behind Inorbit mall, Goregaon? That road has a number of wannabe racers on bikes and cars trying out their skills and vehicles each day.

That is a very bad crash. It looks as if it is dismantled and crushed into pieces. As per the report, the car rammed the median.
I often see vehicles cursing at high speeds near to the median. Yes, as per regulations all high speed vehicles should be on the right most lane. But how often do we see drivers loosing control, hitting median and jumping over to the opposite lane :Shockked:
RIP

Strictly speaking, the rightmost lane is the overtaking lane (used only to overtake). The remaining lanes are meant for cruising (from left to right, in ascending order of speed).
In the stretch in question (Krishnagiri-Ranipet) where the highway is 3 lanes each way, I obsessively stick to the middle lane.

I think/hope you're joking, but to clarify for anyone who is confused...
The ideal crash is where the crumple zone collapses (absorbs) as much of the impact as possible, while the passenger cabin does not get penetrated at all.
In the case of the Omni, there isn't even a crumple zone.
You can't judge how well a car did in a crash based on how well it 'held up'.

The Innova passengers are probably sitting at home drinking chai.
The Omni passengers are probably still in the ICU.
