Left fender and front bumper - to be replaced. Each about 16K. Bonnet: de-denting and painting. Another 8K. These are the big items.

Why don't you take it to trend automobiles in Electronic City, Binand? Several threads on their denting and painting work.

Don't see why I have to lug it all the way back to E-City. The insurance guys will foot bulk of the bill anyway, right? Both the fender and bumper have unrepairable damages that even I could make out.

It is your life, your decision.

About five years back my office cab (Indigo) rammed a BMTC volvo bus from behind at about 25kmph speed. The cab had the same problem, other end of the seat belt (buckle) was missing from the seat. I was sitting on left side of the rear seat and my head banged the head rest of the front passenger seat. Even at that slow speed I had to visit Manipal Hospital emergency and they took good 4 hours time to declare that I did not have internal head injury. Had to take one week rest due to minor injury on my left eye. One eye specialist told me "you are lucky, people loose eye in some cases after such impact" After that accident, I wrote to the transport department about the issue and I always got office cabs with proper seat belt arrangement.

During my recent visit to native (Assam), we had to hire cabs a few times. I compelled cab drivers in few cases to get the other end of the belt (buckle) in place, otherwise we won't use the cab. Their reaction: "Sir, police will catch only if driver is not wearing seat belt" :Frustrati

Was the A2B vehicle attempting home delivery?

Find the answer to your question here: "NON-STOP ON FLYOVER"

Rainy day, slippery road and fresh layer of tarmac now, a light nudge would be the least thing required to manage this "event".

Narrow road and wall on one side and the railing on the other side has ensured to retain the truck in that position which otherwise would have toppled it for sure.

Arun, incidentally I have spotted these A2B LCV only on BETL in the mornings on my way to work, driven rashly to say the least. I presume they must be delivering few stuff from one of the centralized kitchens.

The first guy to call in these conditions is your insurer - especially if you have a 1:1 relationship with the guy handling your account. I manage that by buying all my insurance from New India and direct from their nearby branch so I have an officer's card / phone number available, and he recognizes me as an old customer.

Either that or the insurer's call center but be guided by their advice on how to proceed.

That ensures your claim is at least processed more favorably - else they will be laser focused on just how best they can deny or minimize the claim.

I'd have said, do that before offering to settle / claim compensation of any sort from the bus driver or other party at fault. 2500 is a petty amount compared to what you're probably facing as a copay even if your claim is accepted and fully settled.

The first call I made (even before I called my wife) was indeed to the insurer. And I hope I do matter to them, considering there are 4 cars for which I pay premium. They told me that they don't need an FIR to process own-damage claims; that the FIR part is entirely my call to make.

This point has been discussed here many times, in fact in this very thread. The biggest impediment in this situation is the need for an MVI to inspect the vehicles involved. I would have had to leave my car there overnight at least; probably for two days to have that done. I had two suitcases full of stuff that I'd have had to lug into an SETC or KSRTC bus; then get off at Silk Board and find a taxi. Alternately I'd have had to pay for cab from Krishnagiri, or leave the luggage behind.

It is all about the individual's risk appetite. With the specific risk-reward calculation appropriate for me, I chose to settle and take the 10K or so hit on my bank balance. I didn't particularly relish the prospect of leaving my (fairly expensive) car behind and being stuck at a place 100 km away from my home, but that is just me - others might well have taken the opposite decision.

The own damage thing will work fine for you except that your hard earned NCB takes a huge hit in such a case.

Also true that a FIR + third party claim (especially if the other party was operating with dodgy insurance to begin with) is a very cumbersome process. But to my knowledge that won't hit your NCB.

So, entirely your call.

A bit more context-specific information. For my car the NCB last year was Rs. 2800. This year (renewal is in October) it will go down further. I am quite willing to take that hit.

In that case own damage works fine for you.

Saw a Brown BMW 3 Series with its nose under a truck yesterday at the Hosur Road Exit of NICE Road. Looked like a low speed forgot to brake in time situation. This resulted in the first exit lane being blocked and traffic build up on the other two booths. Consequence of that follows next.

While on my way a silver E220 overtook me from the left and the driver looked a bit unsure of the cars size, probably new. Found the same car missing rear bumper and damaged right rear fender when it tried to overtake some 18 wheeler from the left, this one on the 3rd lane of the same toll booth.

Needless to say, it took a while to cross the exit booth with both lanes blocked after this.

Hey Samarth/Sam, I notice that a YouTube channel called 'Crazy Accidents' has taken the pictures of your Aspire after its accident and collated them into a slideshow video. I've quoted your two posts that have the relevant pictures, for the benefit of other readers to quickly refer to them and compare to the video below.

[Note from mod: Breaking youtube URL below so they don't get unnecessary views]
youtube .com/watch?v=pe6S7iXcZI8

If you've given them permission to use your pictures, that's fine. Otherwise, I thought you ought to know, so you (or the mods) can choose to take appropriate action, such as reporting the video in question.

In fact, if you look carefully at the bottom-left of the video, you can see the 'Hosted On' phrase from the Team BHP watermark. The other egregious thing that annoyed me is the video's description quoted below, which talks about loss of life, when I know your family was safe:

Latest Car Accident of Ford Figo Aspire in India. It is a compilation video of The most shocking road car accidents that have occurred and resulted in lost of life and property.

Posted by a friend on facebook. Seems overtaking attempt went horribly wrong. There was no serious injury. Place: Jorabat (near Guwahati).

Thanks for discovering this Arun - I didn't know it existed. I wonder what gives these guys the right to use copyrighted material and do with it as they please. Don't think they even bothered to read what was written alongside the photos - otherwise how could the description say "loss of life" when I've clearly mentioned that no one was harmed, save for 2 minor scratches. My wife is more pissed off than I am.

Anyway I have flagged the video - maybe others can do so as well.
