re: Accidents in India | Pics & Videos

Found this on Facebook. An accident in Bangalore.

Quote:
Around 4:30 pm today near Marathahalli skywalk , A rogue driver of BMTC Volvo driving like a maniac mowed down a scooter , Hit an auto and crossed over the road divider ... Not sure about the fatalities ....
Honestly, these Volvo drivers are a nuisance. They have scant regard for rules and are strong proponents of intimidation. ALWAYS on high beam, always bullying people on the road, always on the phone and the list goes on.

Tell them to go on low beam and they will abuse you. Introduce a rule that will get them to mellow down and they will threaten a strike through their unions.

The scene looks pretty bad, however I would refrain from blaming the Volvo driver till I get a first hand report. The two & three-wheelers are equally notorious, if not more. Am sure you have noticed the 2 wheelers sneaking into every gap that they see (forget getting through) irrespective of the consequences to them and other big vehicles.

Am not backing the volvo guys, but we should understand the stress levels of them spending 8-10hours on road in the maddening traffic.

+1.

All Bangaloreans have encountered plenty of both breeds of drivers to know it could've been either side's fault. Bullying Volvo drivers and maniacal two-wheeler riders are as abundant as each other.

Actually, scratch that. Statistically speaking, two-wheeler riders have a huge numeric advantage given their sheer number on our roads.

I've been bumped, side-swiped, bullied and nearly ran off the road by both types more often than I care to count, so I'd be careful jumping to conclusions based on a few pics.

P.S. For what it's worth, currently nursing a second-degree burn on my right leg for the last three weeks, inflicted by a bike exhaust thanks to a sample specimen of the two-wheeler variety who chose to zip out of a blind spot on the wrong side at night without working headlamps in pouring rain, then abused me for not watching where I was going and failing to spot him.

No road manners, not about being courteous, even safety measures.
All out driving with vengeance, saving seconds only to wait 2 car lengths ahead in next signal.
Treating road as a ultimate proof point (a colleague says 140 is normal in highways, with pride).
Expecting everyone to give way..

At end, even after so many fatalities, we never learn?!

It is time that authorities implement speed check at toll booths at highways (Booth X to Booth Y should be at least XX minutes apart) else book for speeding!

What people will do is speed up 80% of the distance and then slow down for the rest getting down the average speed saving them from getting booked.

Rather than that put up average speed cameras.

Not sure how the accident took place. My guess is may be a HTV would have rammed the bike from behind, throwing the occupants out. They would have landed on the road only to be crushed by the wheels of the HTV
It is my guess. Not sure how it happened.
Things are gruesome, and then newspaper reports it in a casual way !!

omanna, 38, was a tractor driver while Anita, 36, owned a tea shop near Whitefield. They were natives of Yadgir district and neighbours in Cauvery Nagar, Garudacharapalya. On Thursday , around 5.30am they were going to work on a two-wheeler. As they reached Graphite India factory , an unknown vehicle rammed into them from the rear and fled the spot. Bleeding from the head, they were rushed to Vydehi hospital by the public. The doctors declared them brought dead.
From your identification, they were crushed to death, and newspapers say they were brought to hospital in a bleeding condition ! Pity these news agencies.

Thanx for the pointer. It was indeed a gruesome sight when chunks of flesh were seen lying on the road but the news report talks nothing about it. Looks like the other vehicle must have rammed into the 2 wheeler at high speed, throwing them off the vehicle and running over them.

This is exactly what happens in the Tirumala ghat road, where you have the same rule - i think 40 mins one way.

Precisely. Sprinting works for Thirumala as it is one time. If someone is travelling long distance (say Chennai to Bangalore), stopping 5/6 times would be a nuisance. Imagine stopping every 50 Kms !
(The yellow boards' occupants would have a disturbed sleep and they would also be reminded constantly that they were overspeeding!).

The girl in this two wheeler had a lucky escape. Here is the news from TOI

Girl has lucky escape

On Thursday evening, a BMTC bus lost control and crushed a two-wheeler near Marathahalli skywalk. The scooterist had a miraculous escape, even though the bike was crushed in the accident.

According to police, a BMTC Volvo bus (330B) lost control after coming down from Marathahalli around 4.30pm. The bus sharply swerved to the right towards the median. Nirmala, 23, who was riding the scooter in front of the bus, was hit.

According to eyewitnesses, she fell off the scooter but away from the path of the bus. However, the vehicle was caught in the tyres of the bus and dragged for a while, before the bus was stopped by a divider. Nirmala is out of danger; a case has been registered against the bus driver.

My first impression was, most people on a Honda Dio are no better than Volvo drivers as well. The quoted portion was from Facebook.

Yes, being a two-wheeler myself notwithstanding; I can vouch for your statement.

Majority of them are absolutely buffoons. They sneak into any gap, dart into the smallest gap they see and usually have no mirrors, squeeze phones into their helmets and talk on the phone thinking they are being smart and worse of all, ride on the footpath.

Encountered one such fool today, KA-41-U-1742. A yellow Apache. Was riding on the footpath near Leela Palace. That by itself was enough to enrage me.

Later, he cut in front of me causing me to brake to avoid hitting him. Stupid fellow had no mirrors. I then shouted at him asking him to watch and turn. He maintained 5ft distance from me ever since.

While climbing up the ghats, the time limit is 28 min and for the return journey down the ghats it is 40 min.

This topic of 2-wheelers and Autos (I dont mean al the 4-wheelers are good drivers) has been beaten to death manytimes on this very same forum, there is no point in bringing it up again. In current situation when the system is not following the rules and respecting the fellow commuters and the govt is enforcing the laws, it is duty of everyone of us to practice the safety on road, we all have someone who's looking forward to our safe return.

Happened in my hometown. Young drunk blood, overspeeding, missed to take a turn and drove straight into a fence, uprooted trees, hit the wall and fell down the water channel. About 200 metres after fence. VW Vento TDi FL. All 4 lives lost. Unbuckled and drunk. Accidents in India | Pics & Videos-imageuploadedbytapatalk1449896654.639262.jpg
