Got these pictures from a Whatsapp group. The details of crash are unknown, but looks like a high speed pole impact to me or a T-Bone by truck.

Can a truck make such a narrow and deep dent? It would cause a wider impact, crushing more of the panels in. Unless the truck or the car driver managed to hit the corner at the perfect angle.

For sure looks like it hugged a tree/pole very tight.

High speed -> Sudden braking -> Skidding -> Hugging a tree/pole.

Agree with Soumyajit9. This looks like a case of high speed driving, skidding, losing control, sliding sideways and hitting a tree/pole. All this at triple digit speeds, I guess. But won't ABS have helped here?

What ever be the case, this crash looks scary (especially for the driver) by the damage to the door and A-pillar and even the roof.

I think it is good if we can keep to actual known accidents, not reposts from unknown original sources, or pictures of garage/tinker's yards, which are always going to have bent and damaged vehicles.

It's just my personal opinion, of course, but it has been said before, and agreed with, on the thread.

This has been mentioned n no. of times on this thread but some overzealous members can't resist posting.
IMO Mods have to delete such posts especially if someone reports it otherwise this thread will become museum gallery of stockyards and service station pics.

Just out of curiosity, why not post such pics? I personally shudder to see the so called strong vehicles such as Sumo and others crushed like matchboxes. Every picture of a damaged or mangled vehicle reminds me to let off the accelerator, be extra watchful on the roads and probably improves my chances of survival.

So why not post them?

So, just by looking at the pic of damaged car lying in the stockyard, we all can judge the few things like Speed, No. of vehicles involved, whether the other vehicle involved in accident is a bus, lorry, car, 2-wheeler, animal, etc. or is it a self-accident, etc. Also then we have free-flowing comments about time of accident, whether driver was sleeping, drunk, etc. and not to mention, the expert comments on Car Structural Integrity and Overall Safety.
If that's what Mods thought of it before titling the thread as 'Accidents in India', I am all for it.
Why not simply start a new thread "Pics from Service Centre/Garage - Guess the factors ?" I am sure it will be the most popular thread on T-BHP.

Your post reminds me of Daily Debates played on Media Channels.

Completely agree. Though Pics with minor damages should be avoided, but the ones with major collisions/damages such as the Ciaz above are an eye opener for all of us. I have been following this thread from some time now, and have seen all sorts of vehicles being crushed like tin cans. This has changed my car's top speed being restricted to a max of 90-100 on highways, whereas earlier it was 130-140's given the roads. And IMHO, no car is built safe and strong enough to survive crazy speeds. Given the state of our country's roads with almost negligible safety standards & terrible driving practices, its best to stay within 100.

I do understand some people's tendency to "assume" or proclaim that the damage occurred in a specific way or under some specific conditions. However that is bound to happen any way and in any forum as different people think different.

If this thread is for accident pics, why insist that pics be from roadside vehicles only?

Also I think the purpose of this thread is after seeing the state of a vehicle one should realise the kind of damage which an accident can cause to the vehicle and its occupants. It doesn't take a specialist or a forensic expert to conclude that I don't want to end up like that, ever. Whatever the speculation around the causes and reasons, nobody wants to end up like that.

So frankly I don't understand why garage side pics should be treated differently.

The answer is in the word "accident," relating to a specific event. And, also, we have plenty of event-based accident pics without resorting to miscellaneous snaps of damaged vehicles.

I think also that this is not twitter or face book, where stuff gets re-tweated, reposted, repeated everywhere to saturation point. Those sites have done the internet no favour with their concepts of "share"

Again, there are enough of the actual-event posts to server that purpose. More than enough. And more than enough, if not far too much, speculation about the circumstances, causes and effects

To put it another way: they are not "accident" pictures, just pics of damaged vehicles, or, if they are actual collision pics, they may be unknown seen-on-facebook/twitter/whatever pics with no information at all. If you really want endless speculation, then yes, as just suggested, there should be a forensics-guessing-game thread. One of the problems is that, in those cases, there can never be any actual answers.

There are always exceptions. This might be the car that ends up at the top of a tree, for instance, if people are really sure it wasn't photoshopped. The really freak freak accident results. Or accidents in other countries, even, if unusual or severe enough.

Just because is good enough for Twitter and facebook, but not good enough for Team-BHP.

Again: this is just my paise's worth, and only my personal opinion and point of view.

I see things a bit differently. I think a drivers top speed should be that which he is comfortable with and at which speed he can easily control any tricky situation safely enough. Now this speed varies for every person according to his driving capabilities. So speed as I see it is also NOT the only cause of accidents as is the most common perception. It is just among one of the causes, mostly when a driver overestimates his capability at a certain speed. There are numerous factors. So many accidents which occur have nothing to do with speed whatsoever. It's more because of misjudgement or fate or bad ego or carelessness and the list could go on and on.I have seen people die at 0 kph. Poor souls must not have even realised why they died instantly. Because at zero kph, mostly you can't see death coming.

If this is how responsible people were in real life there would indeed be no need for driver's licences. :)

Not sure what you are alluding to with this. Are you suggesting it's okay to go over 100 kph on Indian roads based on each driver's assessment of his own capability ?

Please watch out for these landmines on our roads, esp 2-wheelers.

I got to see the effects of the type of pothole that recently resulted in the death of a lady riding with her husband. Me, better half, and her lady friends were traveling to Kalyanagar. After the signal just before the ITC bridge, I saw a woman slamming into the ground (she tramlined into a long and narrow pothole) as she descended the ITC bridge. We stopped to the side and crossed the road to help. By that time, other people had helped her up. Her hands were all bloody and she was struggling to keep conscious. Thank God she was wearing a helmet. I'm sure she has fractured her hands, because they were swelling. We have to be so careful on our roads:Frustrati
