Apparently the driver of the ill fated vehicle was asked by others not to cross as the train was approaching but he said he'll pass. The vehicle is unidentifiable by the photograph in newspaper.

I have seen in quite a few videos of approaching trains and one does not really get a sense of the trains speed while looking at it from the front. I wonder if this gives a sense to people that they can cross the line without getting hit. One such example underneath, of course, the old man in the video is really insane to be doing that.

Yup, It's the same junction. May be a sharp turn, if some other vehicle had hit the tanker that it would have been at the same spot.

This happened the previous day afternoon, i posted it the next day morning :)

Three people can easily fit in the boot of Maruti 800, so it should be much easier in Wagon R.

I frequently see such overloaded cars around my village. And they never drive slow. Police are never there to check.

Saw an accident today afternoon near Dharmapuri on Salem highway. A Renault Fluence involved in this accident looked total loss.

I couldn't take a snap as the place was crowded. Anyone has details?

Saw this BMW being towed away to the garage at Belapur (Navi Mumbai) yesterday. From behind looks perfect, front is gone...

Tragic News , just came across the news as I reached home , hope this is the last time that lives are lost due to avoidable and callous actions !

Mandi, Himachal Pradesh: 24 students from an engineering college in Hyderabad are feared to have been washed away in the Beas river near Mandi in Himachal Pradesh. Six of them are girls.

The incident occurred at around 6 pm when the students, who were on their way to the resort town of Manali for an excursion, were clicking pictures on the banks of the river. A sudden release from the reservoir of the Larji dam led to a surge in the water level in the river which is feared to have swept away the students.

The missing students are part of a 46-member sightseeing group from the VNR Vignan Jyothi Engineering College. The group's tour manager and faculty member Kiran is also missing.

Angry locals blocked the Manali-Kiratpur Highway, saying authorities had failed to issue a warning about the release of water from the dam.

Search operations to trace the missing students have been hampered by darkness and strong river currents.

"Impossible to do search operations as water flow is massive at the moment... Investigations will be carried out," Ram Swaroop Sharma, the MP from Mandi, told NDTV.

RIP the departed.

Absence of Under Run Bars in a major cause along with huge overhang deck of container truck.

The driver of car has run under the truck at high speed. Either he did not see the truck due to lack of attention or other such factors but it is mainly due to drivers negligence.

Was the container truck wrongly parked or braked suddenly? Even then as responsible driver the car could not have gone under so much.

I suppose the horrific accident took place at night wherein the doctor failed to judge the truck movement. But it is baffling as to how the car was crushed by the side of the truck

Just a guess. Think he was going at a rather high speed and he was late in spotting the truck and avoiding it. Underrun bars are most effective when crashed into in its center. Looks like he either turned too late or the car wasn't quick to respond to steering input. Since the truck is hit from the side, the underrun bars would have bent or got cut. The way tue vehicle has pierced into the bottom of the truck itself indicate the speed of the car. If the car were a bit slower, I dont think the impact wouldnt have been so severe.

The underrun prevention is very well present and it is quite thick too which can be seen in the right of the truck. Its just that the car came in too fast for it to prove its worth.

Yes, i too see an under run protection bar on the right side and since the impact is on the extreme left of the truck, the bar might not have been structurally capable of stopping the car. The truck seems to be on the rightmost lane, i reckon either it was parked and the car driver spotted it at the last moment or could be an overtaking maneuver gone wrong as its not uncommon for slow moving trucks to be on the rightmost lane in our country. In either case, speed seems to be the culprit. RIP.

Sad accident. The brake lights on the Verna are still lit up! Looks like the doctor braked too late and went under the container truck.

If the truck had under-run protection, the doctor may have had a chance as crumple zones and airbags would come into the picture. I think under-run protection is mandatory for trucks. Until we have stricter law enforcement, we will continue losing good innocent lives like this.

Just take your eyes off the road for a second to glance at the phone screen to see who is calling and it can be too late. Don't take your eyes off the road and if you really need to, make sure that you are a good distance away from the vehicle in front.

R.I.P Doctor.

True, not all under-run bars are created equal.

The video in this post is quite graphic & clearly shows that most under-run bars don't fare well in offset impact situations.

Guessing that the regulations call for presence of an under-run bar, but do not specify any kind of strength requirements.
