Witnessed an i10 catching fire on the Adyar to Madhya Kailash road in Chennai last night. I see this car parked on the side, all doors open with smoke pouring out from the insides and in no time flames start blazing out of the bonnet (near the windshield). Was quite scary to see the car just catch fire like that. Wonder what caused it. The occupants were out and I don't think anyone was injured, since all the doors were opened. |

The tyre seems to come flying from nowhere. Would have been fatal if it had hit the windshield. Was the car by chance a Suzuki Swift?(Going by the looks of the grill) |

Hey i pased it around the same time as well ~9:50pm. I passed it before any flames engulfed the car i.e a few seconds ahead of you. People had gotten out, were throwing buckets of water on it, but smoke was coming out and few people were making calls (HMIL/police, I presume). Did you see any further information in the papers? It was a really scary sight man. |
the people around the car panicked and were shouting |
According to Kancheepuram police sources, the accident took place around 8 a.m. when the car deviated from its path, for reasons unknown, and collided head-on with the lorry. The car was smashed. |

Mob protesting accident damages trucks May 21, 2014, 03.43 AM IST KRISHNAGIRI: More than 50 trucks were damaged by an agitated mob in Hosur on Thuesday evening. They were protesting the death of a 40-year-old woman in an accident. R Anuradha, 44, was riding pillion on a bike with her husband Ramakrishnan when a truck rammed the bike, killing her on the spot. The couple, from Tharikotta village near Madanapalle in Chittoor district, were on their way to a grocery shop on the Hosur-Bangalore National Highway. "An infuriated mob damaged several trucks and pelted stones at them," said Hosur traffic investigations wing (TIW) police. "Ramakrishnan works for a private firm in Hosur while Anuradha is a housewife," the TIW official said. When they crossed Hosur bus stand, a truck rammed their bike from behind following which both husband and wife went under the wheels of the truck. Ramakrishnan sustained multiple injuries and is in a critical condition, while Anuradha died on the spot. Witnesses immediately gathered at the spot and started attacking the truck driver. He, however, managed to escape. Subsequently, the mob pelted stones at the truck, damaging its windshields. Another mob started pelting stones at other trucks passing by. "They pelted stones at more than 50 trucks heading to Bangalore. No one was injured in the attack," the police said. Meanwhile, Hosur division DSP E Gopi and police from Sidco, Hudco, Bagalur, Berigai and Shoolagiri police stations rushed to the spot and detained more than 10 people. "A case has been registered in connection with the issue. No arrest has been made so far," the TIW official said, adding that the situation in Hosur is now under control. Traffic on the Chennai-Bangalore NH was disrupted for more than 45 minutes. Ramakrishnan was rushed to Hosur government hospital for treatment. |
