Re: Steelbird launches vintage-style helmets starting at Rs 959

Looks like Steelbird is simply encashing on the "vintage" sobriquet with the sole aim to enrich their coffers. Sans a chin guard such helmets are harbingers for injuries and loss of lives for the buyers who get could involved in mishaps.

There are hundreds of brands, by both well known (including Steelbird) and fly-by-night operators who sell such substandard helmets. They sell and also outsell their products and are merry. But launching a new "vintage" helmet by the reputed manufacturer to gain publicity with gimmicks and such a product is totally uncalled for by Steelbird.

Their company profile on their official website says:-

Quote:
With global domination of more than 50 years and the inspiration to protect bike lovers and adventure enthusiasts all over the world, Steelbird Hi-Tech India Ltd. (SBHT) was founded on 13th March 1964. SBHT, a flagship company of Steelbird Group of Industries, ventured into the unknown territory of auto accessory business to manufacture helmets.

Well I'm a car person mostly and started riding since 2018 only out of necessity. When I went to buy my first helmet in 2018, I tried many different helmets but with some of the full face ones, I couldn't squeeze my specs in at all after wearing them. In some of them, I could wear specs but it wouldn't sit properly. So I chose the next best option to buy a flip type that will give some protection and yet easy to use with specs. It's the only helmet I ever bought till date. Thanks to you guys, I'll definitely give full face helmets another try.

My fracture was an incomplete one so it didn't require any plates but a fall from a bike could cause a complete fracture where you would need to go for surgery. I wear glasses and also a full-face helmet. If a helmet didn't fit because of my glasses, I would change my glasses to one that would fit inside a helmet. Take it from me, you don't want to sip liquids for a month or be mute for a month because you skimped on wearing a proper helmet. A simple fall itself can cause a lot of damage. Not to mention the cost of getting your teeth fixed. You could get another scooter for the money you spent on the treatment.
First of all, really sorry to hear that and I hope you've recovered well. And yes from your experience I can imagine how pathetic it would be in a motorcycle accident if someone is to hit jaw first without any protection.

Thanks for opening my eyes everyone. I'll definitely give full face helmets another try now.

This statement says it all, both are a super hit among the masses. But, what's wrong with the Activa combi-brakes? Are they so bad?
