I was not aware of Lanesplit, Noida or otherwise I would have definitely checked them out. Anyway, this will not be my first or last Arai for sure. I do have a question though, if Lanesplit is importing these expensive helmets to India, how are these helmets ISI compliant? These helmets will also not carry the ISI mark and will be illegal in our country, right?

It does take some getting used to. It is not as comfortable in warm/hot conditions as regular armour.
Quick queries:
  1. Why not wear the MotoX pants with the braces instead of regular riding pants?
  2. How do these leatt braces compare to the Rynox bionic knee armours?

Hi MileCruncher,
I haven't used Rynox knee guard so I can't comment on it, but I have used knee guards in past from famous manufacturers so I will comment from that perspective.

Hyperflexion: Hard shell leg guards do not protect you from an hyperflexion, which causes ACL, Meniscus and MCL.

Protection Coverage Overall large coverage for knee and shin. almost like a wrap-around. A fall in any angel will protect from sharp rock, tree roots, thorny bushes and whatnot. A severe injury by a fall on a trail made me and my friend to buy this.

Impact Distribution
Injected composite chassis construction to better distribution of the impact. Unlike the plastic shell in guards.

Mobility and structural integrity
Aluminium hinges for rigidity at critical joins.

On MotoX pants,
really no reason, except for vents, and pockets in the riding pants.

Re: Which Helmet? Tips on buying a good helmet

Drawn into the hype during the Community day, I booked the Halo helmet. It has been a long wait but finally I got it last week. Here’s some first impressions for those considering this.

It came in quite a huge box, very sturdy that my wife decided to keep it with us for storage purposes. Inside the helmet is placed in a nice cloth cover with space for the home charger and the charging cable. The halo smart module was separate and needs to be assembled.

I had quite a hard time putting the cable that juts out of the helmet into the module. I got in touch with Ather and they suggested to use a screwdriver for leverage as there is no space for the finger.

Looks : I got the grey one and it looks absolutely dope. It has a matte finish and the module gives it an absolutely unique look. The module just has a single button which is easy to locate and operate. The padding is of light grey colour which raises concern about the long term cleanliness. But from my inspection, it does look like it is removable and makes cleaning easier.

Comfort : I have used it for a couple of days and have no complaints on the comfort. I had tried the M and L and found the M a bit too tight and the L to be just right. I think for a city helmet which you’re going to use in traffic, I prefer a helmet that is a bit on the looser side. We have had a hot September in Bangalore and the inside of the helmet was wet and gross in no time. I use a balaclava for longer rides but for city, I need to get a cap

Features : Since I only have a single helmet and have no plans to buy another, the intercom and music sharing features are useless. I only use it for audio (podcast) and calls. The sound quality is outstanding, even in peak traffic, I was able to hear the voices clearly and the traffic noises filter through clearly. I had no issue with calls as well, the other party was able to hear me clearly. Having a single large button to play pause is very useful. I wasn’t aware of the wear sensor, so it was a pleasant surprise. When I wear the helmet, the module connected and disconnects when I remove the helmet. The charging is very slick, plug in a USB cable to the module and it just snaps into place to charge the module. Normally, the charge is shown in Bluetooth settings but I couldn’t see it. I’ll have to check the Ather app I guess.

Overall verdict : I’m very pleased with the purchase. I used to use a half face helmet with tws buds in one side and it was frankly a pain. This is a much safer and better featured alternative. The sound quality is far superior to the Bluarmor and the Parani that I’ve got in my other helmets. I don’t foresee using this for highway rides, that’s left to my LS2 helmet.
Cost wise, I’m happy with the price I paid, which is 6500. Maybe it’s possible to get something for a bit lower price, but I doubt I’ll be as good looking and as slick. But at the current full price, I doubt I’ll buy it, mainly because I’m not convinced of how safe it is compared to other helmets in that price range.

Hi Axe77, Please let us the know your first hand user review. I am visiting Japan and I am thinking of getting the NXR 2 over there. Currently sitting on the fence regarding the purchase. Your feedback will help to make my decision.

I own a HJC RPHA70 currently.

Thanks

Finally got another Frog for my wife. Since both helmets are identical in all respects, I got our names and blood group stickers on both sides.

Re: Which Helmet? Tips on buying a good helmet

I'm in the market for a new full-face touring helmet and would appreciate some recommendations. I currently rotate between a Bell MX9 Adventure and an LS2 Pioneer II, but both feel a bit cumbersome for pure highway riding. Looking for something more balanced and comfortable for longer rides.

I'm aiming for something around the 15,000 INR mark and would prefer a helmet that's at least ECE 22.06 certified. I briefly tried out the LS2 Storm II, and while it seemed decent, I want to test it again to see if it's comfortable for longer stints.

Would appreciate any suggestions for other helmets in this price range. Something that's good for highway use, well-ventilated, and not too heavy. Looking forward to the inputs!

Recently, I got to check out the new Airoh Connor helmet at Autoqueen, Cochin. Since the popular Airoh Valor has seen a bump up in its price, the Airoh Connor is now the entry level product in the Airoh lineup for India. It is ECE 22.06 homologated and is pinlock ready (not provided in the box). It doesnt come with a sunvisor or a double D ring mechanism. The air vents at the top have a unique roller mechanism which might take some getting used to but will probably be very easy to use, once you get the hang of it. The large size helmet weighs in at 1560 +/- 50 grams while the small size helmet comes in at 1450 +/- 50 grams.

The chrome mesh elements make the helmet stand out from all the other options in the market. I did like some of the colour schemes that were on offer. Despite being the most affordable Airoh option, the padding is surprisingly plush and feels as good as its competitors in the Rs 11K to Rs 15K price range. Speaking of prices, the base colour versions retail for Rs 12,950 and the fancier ones are for Rs 14,950.

As the regulars on this thread know by now, High Note Performance is importing Airoh helmets with the ISI mark for India. With the new ISI certification, the revised prices of all the Airoh helmets have gone up a bit as compared to their earlier listed prices, but as motorcycle enthusiasts, we will never complain about the increased availability of high quality helmets in our market. Overall, the Airoh Connor is a premium looking and feeling helmet that should attract the attention of enthusiasts who want an ECE 22.06 rated helmet for their daily riding / commuting / occasional weekend rides.

This is going to be my daily helmet. I like the fit, Haven't ridden with it yet but have read good reviews.
LS2 MX436 - 500 Km Update

I have used the helmet for in city riding and through rains and the Mumbai October heat. And I have been wearing the helmet without balaclava. Some key observations:
  • The fit around the jaws is a little tight compared to the ADX-2. Its gets a bit uncomfortable after about 1 hr of wearing
  • The peripheral view is brilliant
  • The helmet is 1600Gms but doesn't feel the weight.
  • Visor down, the wind noise has been negligible during city rides.
  • However, the helmet starts giving me pain on top of my head if worn for more than 1 hr at a stretch. Not sure if this is due to shape issue of the shell or something else. Has anybody else faced something like this?

I intend to wear the helmet with balaclava on a long ride and see how it feels.

Generally this means the helmet is not the correct size for your head. Hopefully it settles in time as the pads get pressed. If you feel the pain without the balaclava chances are the balaclava will only make it worse since the helmet will fit tighter.

Sometimes this could also be due to a few strands of hair which haven’t been brushed or kept behind your forehead. While a few strands of hair may not feel like much, after an hour or so it could develop into the pain you are feeling.

Cheers

This is really the most important aspect. The rest comes secondary. Agree with some of Cyborg’s points and the balaclava (unless very very thin) is only likely to exacerbate the discomfort.

This simply means the helmet is either not the ideal size for you or maybe its fit not suitable to your head shape or something similar. With some helmets the shell size across some sizes is the same and you can sometimes change the internal cheek pads etc to one from a larger size to see if it fits better. Perhaps speak to whoever sold it to you and see if there’s some possibility there. Else you may end up having to change it in due course because it’s not practical to do long rides with the helmet creating pain points.

I also traded in my Arai RX 7X for a similar reason. While the Small EU spec one fit me all right, the Japanese / Asian fit RX 7X Small was simply too tight creating pain points.

Yes. Back in 2017, I bought an RPHA ST from Amazon global store without trial and ended up giving it to my brother due to the exact issue. It caused me major headaches on long rides because my forehead shape didn't fit the helmet. It is not going to get better unfortunately.

Alas, there are no strands of hair at al on the head. Plus the pain typically happens in the center area of the shell where there is just a cloth and no cushion.

My head size is 56Cm which corresponds to S across most helmet makers globally. My SMK MX and Scorpion ADX2 DS are perfect. I feel the shell of LS2 MX436 is slightly oval rather than being circular. It is this thing that is causing the issue.
While buying I had checked the M size too and it was loose (not snug) both at jaw and forehead. So sizing is correct.

Also this model comes with standard size cheek pad foams across S-XL because the shell is different across each size.

Let me try a couple of times again before taking a final call.

I had bought it after trying in a store. The issue is pain points get created after atleast 1 hour of wearing which you cannot replicate in a store.

Fingers crossed!

Then it’s the helmet shape and that’s very likely the reason as you’ve correctly identified. It’s like Arai vs Shoei - each suits a slightly different kind of head shape type if I’m not mistaken.

My personal preference has gravitated to Shoei on account of fit comfort. Give it a few more tries but if it continues you may need to move on.
