Few months back i got the Axor Apex, comes standard with a Pin Lock visor and a flickable dark shade sun visor, for the cost its decent from fit/finish/equipment POV.

However on a recent (first) long ride i found it to be too noisy, at 80-100kmph it lets in too much wind noise.

Didn't experience such noise in previous LS2 which i owned.

Anybody else having similar feedback on wind noise with Axor (apex) helmets ?

The LS2 Storm felt to be a much more comfortable helmet and it also comes with a Pinlock included in the box. Lack of good colour options available with the dealer and the older safety rating made me choose the MT but now I'm rethinking this purchase!
mac13, if I were you, I would sell the MT helmet and get the LS2 Storm instead. The latter is widely available and you should be able to find better colour choices in another dealer.

Re: Which Helmet? Tips on buying a good helmet

A little birdie tells me that a globally renowned helmet company has tied up with an established Indian helmet company to manufacturer and sell helmets that are made in India. Interesting days ahead.

Meanwhile, Bilmola has already got its ISI certification. I saw some funky colour options at a store here in Cochin.

LS2 also has a couple of new models with ISI certification.

Re: The Riding Gear thread

Ok then. I was considering the axor apex series as my second helmet. But this puts it out of contention. I do 4-500kms highway trips 2-3 times a month where I ride between 80-100kmph, going upto 120 when road permits.
Currently using a MT Thunder3. Looks like I have to go the MT way again.

Its fine as far as the fit and finish is considered however i have noticed issues with its sound isolation.

Was just using it for short rides all this time until i took it out for a 100km breakfast ride few days back, this thing is literally a Sound Box, on a open highway at 80-100kmph all i could hear was wind noise at times with a whistling tone.

Had never faced this in past 8-10years till i was using LS2, planning to get earbuds soon.

Wanted to know experience of other Axor users, if its same across the brand or something specific to Apex variant.

I was also recently in a lot of dilemma to purchase a good helmet. Unfortunately there are not a lot of options in my city, only MT/Axor/LS2/SMK. Tried a lot of them and finally settled down to MT Hummer. Weight was a major factor so was reluctant on buying Axor helmets as they all weight 1650gms. Luckily Hummer felt the best, so I ended up saving some money also. There is also Targo for ₹7800 which has double-d ring and possibly better padding. Also Hummer isn’t that loud and there is no whistling noise(80-100kmph). I anyway use earplugs for highway riding so it didn’t matter much.

Re: The Riding Gear thread

The Hummer does seem like a good choice. Though it misses out on an internal sunvisor. Wil also have to check for specs compatibility.

No doubt internal sun-visor is great, but over my few touring experiences, I have realised that one hardly needs them while touring. A good sunglass will do the trick. They also add up 50-100gms which was a trade off I was willing to make.
The situation changes though if the helmet is used for city commuting. Sun-visor can be useful in city runs.

I have purchased this helmet specifically for touring.

Re: The Riding Gear thread

Well you see I wear specs and have only a single pair of powered sunglasses which is a metal frame. Not ideal for wearing inside a helmet. So I’m debating whether to put in the extra moolah on the helmet or another set of powered sunglasses in fibre frame.
The weight reduction is an interesting point though. Never thought of that!

Re: Which Helmet? Tips on buying a good helmet

Hello all,

In continuation to my old post,I am in Europe right now and shopping for helmets. My first preference was an Airoh GP550S, but I could not find a store that kept stock ready near my town to try it.
However as a part of Black Friday deal I am getting a HJC RPHA 70 Kosis for 250 Euro. I am looking for advice if this particular model is good or if need to do further searching.

Thanks for the advice. I'm planning on doing just that. Lesson learnt that safety ratings aside, the fit is most important. The MT did not give any trouble when trying out at the store. But it's not possible to wear a helmet for 20 mins at the store before a purchase like many helmet buying guides advice.

This is a good choice. I have the HJC RPHA-10 and absolutely love it to bits.

Here is a detailed review from a reliable site - https://www.webbikeworld.com/hjc-rph...-hands-review/

You’re absolutely right. I too tried to shift the position of the helmet on the head. It relieved the pressure on the back of the head a bit but the pressure point then shifts to the left ear. Getting another helmet is the only solution.

I have an Axor Apex as well. While it's great on the features front, it's EXCEPTIONALLY noisy at speed on the highways. I use ear plugs now so can tolerate it, but anything near 75-80kmph and it starts to get deafening ...

When me or my friends buy a helmet we typically spend 40 minutes to an hour at the store trying few options and wearing the lid for a slightly extended time period. The folks at Power Sports Bengaluru (Authorised MT sellers) are always kind enough to let us do so. Visiting on a weekday might help too.
